I recently read a letter by a FF fanboy stating that the series is going to become horrible horrible garbage because of FFX-2. The person said that FFX-2 is a horrible idea, and that FFX is the worst game in the series. He said that FF's future was ruined by this. I on the other hand quite enjoyed FFX, more so than I did 7...I also think that the sequel looks like an enjoyable play with some innovative features (like the costume changing XD). I still do not understand why everyone loathes them so much. I, however, wish to hear your opinions on the matter.

They should NOT make sequels to FINAL fantasies. I realise that there is "Final Fantasy" and "Final Fantasy 2" and so on, but they are just new games.

Well, who really cares? I mean you could call Final Fantasy 2 something else and it would have nothing to with the previous game.

Exactly. I think they just make new Final Fantasies when they can't think up a good name for one of their games.
"Let's name this one 'Horny Kid Who Has An Adventure Involving A Magic Tree'!" "Nah, let's name it 'Final Fantasy 9'. That suits it better."
And I'm not very fond of sequels to Final Fantasy games. But whatever. It will make money for Squaresoft anyways.

..I did not enjoy FFX very much at all. Great Graphics, above average music (as always for Square), and a decent storyline; it had it all. But even though I liked the game, I could probably never bring myself to play through the whole game again...
The character's basically jump out at you, after 4 hours of play time, you have already have almost the entire cast of characters. And I didn't care for them really, Wakka had some development with his belief in Yevon and all, but really, who didn't think that something was going to happen with the church..?
Besides Auron and Tidus, there's not a single thing that happened to the characters that suprised me. I mean, come on, it was kind of the same way with FF9, but the character's personalities in that game is what really made me have to like it. Who couldn't like Eiko? (Rhetorical Question)
I'm still looking forward to FFX-2, when I watched the preview that came with one of Square Enix's new games (and surprised to only see the Squaresoft symbol in the game instead of the SquareEnix one that was on the box) it started to peak my interest. But I hope they pay more attention to character development this time. But from what I hear, since there's no big enemy to fight (Sin) it just has Rikku and Yuna running around doing their Thelma and Louise impression over Spira. They really don't have an excuse to not have some character development this time around, with only three characters and all..

FFX is probably my favorite FFs, and I can't wait for the sequel. I really enjoy all the colors and good mood of FFX. Theres not all that angst and boo hooing that the other FFs had that got old really fast. Sure X has a dark side to it, what with Sin, but the characters always seem to have a positive outlook. It was nice for a change. (9 touched on this as well) X-2 promises to continue the light mood and slap in a J-pop feel. Lets not forget the most important thing: The main cast are ALL women, and thats a big step (hey, okay so their in skimpy outfits. Thats not so bad... at least for the guys). 6 kinda did this with Terra as a lead role. X (and x-2) is all about doing things different, or expanding on things the other FFs had.

I don't agree with any sequels to any FF games. It just isn't right. FFX-2 won't ruin the series though. It already is a very good series so you can't really ruin it. Even if their last efforts haven't met my standards, I still can't deny that FF is a good series. FFXI is awesome anyway so that helps its future too.
Edit: Don't even try comparing what FFX-2 is to what FFVI was. Terra isn't even truly the main character. It kind of appears that way but you can use whoever you want.

I guess you could say that but I would still disagree. There was no lead role.

..Well, I'd agree with Tim IF Gimdin had said she was a main character..
Was Terra not a lead role? It's obvious, or so I believe, the true meaning between the main characters of FF6; A bunch of people, all with their heartbreaks, all with their sorrows, coming together, not under someone, not electing anyone as their leader. Just a group of people, all who wished for a change in the world. Besides, I liked Celes and Locke more than Terra...

The way I feel is that most people think Terra is the lead role simply because she is the first you control. In actuality, FFVI has no main role. Hell, Celes could be called the main role because you start with her in the World of Ruin. FFVI is a game where all the characters are equal (except maybe Gogo and Umaro) and all have backstorys and different quests specific for them. It's one of the great things about FFVI.

Well, a large part of the game was following Terras story, what with the Espers and everything.

..Yes, but when I play FF6, I usually had this feeling of the whole game focusing on a number of people, and not just one. A main character is usually what a book, movie, play, etc., etc., focuses on. But to me, they didn't focus on Terra all that much. She has just a bit more development than the other characters, but most, and I probably fall to this same sterotype, simply believe she's the main character because you start with her. If you started with, let us say, Locke, then I'm sure half of the people who played the game who immediatley believe he was the main character. And we can't say she's the main character because of the time she stay's in the party. Indeed, whenever I got used to her, something happened and she ran off. If we were supposed to go on who stayed with the main party for the longest to determine the main character, Locke WOULD be the main character. He almost never leaves the party, I can only remember only once when that happened, or so I remember (except when they split up and all that..). In fact, I believe Locke and Celes to be more interesting, and have more development than Terra..

I rather focus on what portion of the story is focused on which character. I actually think Locke was the closest thing to a male main character, and Terra being the female lead, although Celes was, or almost was, on the same level.

I dont know what is more disturbing about this poll, the fact that there is an option for 'It is good whack-off material' or that three people actually voted for it.
