It has to do with RPG Making, yes? So it goes here... And it really, really depends on the game. A cliffhanger usually works, though.

Definitely a cliffhanger. I've played many an RM2K demo where the demo ends, without a message, and lets you wander around freely. Guess who wasted a few hours of his life looking for the next location of demos that had ended?

Depends on the game. If it's long and there are many hidden secrets, players might want to play furthur.

I'vbe thought about giving a demo summary (like on Omonisha) where it tells you how many points you got and make them realise what they've missed and the potential of the dmeo and all of it's side quests. E.g
Quest Points = 2 out of 25 Hidden Secrets = 1 our of 5
Ect...ect...

[glow=yellow,2,300]Cliffhangers definatly, a demo that ends with nothing doesn't make a player want to know what happens next as much.[/glow]

Wait wait wait.. I'm a little confused. When you first made this post over in General: RPG it said "Vote please, it could cut my games release by a while." .. So I assumed you meant demo endings for RM2k games 'cause that's the way you made it seem. However.. now your asking about COMMERCIAL RPG demos, and that would be something like demos of Final Fantasy VII, or Shenmue, or Suikoden III - That would belong in General: RPG. Make up your mind!

I'm doing the statistic thing in my demo too. There's a part where it says "To be continued..." and then the screen goes black and it shows you your score. How many amulets you got, how long it took to play, how many scrolls, etc.

I ended my first game's demo with a cliffhanger, but then after that cliffhanger you could roam freely in case you missed any secrets. Of course, you couldn't advance the storyline as that area was blocked, but you could still play minigames and try to get the secret character in that demo.

I like cliffhangers at the end of demos, but having both a cliffhanger with a message saying "end of demo", then having a free roaming part, like in FFVII Ancestral Vengeance and Curse of Silence is good too.
