Never could get this right

I know how to use forks, variables, etc... but I just can't get the random variable thing to work. (used in the army battles in LS 1+2) Any help would be nice. My game is slowly getting off the ground.

its simple really ( i used it for a simalar reason in an ff7 C.B.S)

first you choose how much randomiseation you want say fom 1-5
then have a fork for the variable for the different things 1-5

e.g
the variable is called a

chng var:a radomise 1-5

fork opts- a=1
show message: a

forkopts-a=2
show message: b

and so forth
sorry if thats a little confusing also sometimes in test play i find that it doesn't do anything but in the game it works fine
