Me and a few of my friends decided to start a band, the name of it is Advent, but we're not entirely sure of the music we'd be playing. From my opinion, I was thinking of us going towards a more Senses Fail/Coheed and Cambria tone to it (Well, I'm not sure if a lot of you have heard those bands). Oh! Anyways, here's our website, though not every section is entirely up: www.adventmusic.tkPlease post your honest opinions of what you think of anything on the site, be it lyrics, site layout, or whatever. (NOTE: People keep thinking we're a Christian band because of our name. Do not think that. Don't. Good.) (ANOTHER NOTE: Don't complain if the site is down. DomainDLX is a piece of crap.)

You guys know when you'll be recording stuff?
Oh, and who are you in the band? Are you Josh?

The layout of the site is functional, which is all it needs to be. I can't really complain about it, it looks how you want it to look. Musical influences are from bands who I've either never heard of or I'm not a fan of: not really a big fan of any of this punk-ish or alternative rock stuff (apart from the truly dreadful mainstream rubbish! 0_o), although I can't really comment on your sound unless I've heard it ^_^. Your first song could be genius! As for the lyrics on the site: they don't seem to fit the punk/alt rock bill, which intruiges me, considering that it seems to me that the music will be like that. They remind me of power metal and all that, and the separation of the lyrics into parts is certainly a very progressive aspect of song-writing. Lyrical content-wise, it does just seem that the author (you?) has just looked through the old thesaurus and dictionary for nice words to use, which does somewhat disrupt the flow of the writing. Also, the lyrics appear to have been influenced heavily by gaming, movies, etc. Although not in itself a bad thing (Iron Maiden!), it does take a lot to write such lyrics and for them not to come across as cheesy. Your lyrics do seem a tad cheesy, but nothing that can't be revised. Everyone needs some practice. If you search this forum, you'll find a set of lyrics I wrote for a song, Celestial Eternity (although you won't find the mp3 for it, that stays on my hard drive ). Chances are that you'll find them also to be a little generic and cheesy. Practice makes perfect. Also, as a final note: the large majority of successful groups tend to write the music first and then add lyrics afterwards; that way, you're not writing music to fit specific lines. Lastly, good luck!

You guys know when you'll be recording stuff? Oh, and who are you in the band? Are you Josh? I'm not really sure when we'd record stuff, but at the latest it'd be around 2-3 months. And yes, I am Josh. Lyrical content-wise, it does just seem that the author (you?) has just looked through the old thesaurus and dictionary for nice words to use... Yes, is it true. I went through a dictionary at some points in time whenever I couldn't find something that would fit in a song, and I tried to look for rhyming words that still had the same meaning I was going for. And yeah, I know it's cheesy, because it was my first attempt at writing lyrics. But still, you're right.

I have no idea who those bands are so I'd have no idea what your music sounds like. But, make sure that this turns out to be semi-successful otherwise, in a future shoot interview, I'll make a joke abouthow the band lasted as long as advent.

I actually like both of those bands, but I like Senses Fail better. Coheed is still cool though.
