You can't convert them to PNG, but you can convert them to BMP, which RM2K will also import. I use Adobe PhotoDeluxe 3.0 to convert JPEGs and 24-bit BMPs into GIFs, then I use Paint to convert the GIFs into 256-color BMPs. It's kind of a long process, but I lose less color information that way. And if you convert them into BMPs in Adobe, when it imports into RM2K, it'll be all funky-looking, so I'm assuming Adobe converts to 24-bit BMPs. I've found that GIFs and 256-color BMPs have about the same color palette, so the colors don't screw up as much.

I would think it perfectly possible, providing you have the programs. I use either Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop. Just open the JPEG or GIF in a suitable program as a project, then save that project as a png. Gif's will be 256 colour already, but you will need to decrease the colour depth of a JPEG to 8-bit / 256 colour, which a decent editing program should be able to manage.

I change the files to 24-bit .bmp files, then to 256color .bmp files in Corel Photo House, then use IDraw to change them to .png. Don't lose much color info . . . Because last time I changed a .jpg/.gif to a 256color .bmp, it almost looked sychedelic. Ah well. I have no other programs that really will read .png files, unless I imported a .png file to rm2k then exported it as a .bmp. Eh.
