Right. I'm setting up the intro for my game, and the hero isn't in it. How do I get it to start automatically without him in it? The best thing I can figure out is to set hero transparency, but all that happens is that he fades out after a moment... how do I get him to be invisible/not there from the very beginning?

Okay, change the hero's walk graphic (in the database) to any blank character set (such as the 8th character in the Crown7.png set). The hero will not be visible now. After the intro create a switch that will change the hero's walk graphic to the one you want. Should look like this... <>Change Hero Walk Graphic: (Hero's name) [whatever walk graphic you picked]
Problem solved.

or you could just set the start party to no one... but don't forget to add the hero after!

[glow=red,2,300]What most people do is make their number 1 hero name DUMMY. It's completely invisble then all you have to do is this.[/glow]
<>ForkConditions: Switch:Intro Done, on. <>Change Party: DUMMY, remove <>Change Party: Hero, add <>End Case
[glow=red,2,300]That's a good and easy way to do it.[/glow]

if you dont add the character thereafter many many things will happen such as if you want an event to move you would make no char or a dummy chip so you could pan the screen but if you get into battles you will automatically die and some switches/variables wont work
