Linkin Park are great!!
That is... for kids moving out of pop boy and girl bands and into 'real' bands.
Other than that, they are uninspiring, whiney, droning, samey, predictable, fake, boring, overrated, cliche... ermm... OK I can't think of a good noun to end it with.
I can't believe they can put out SO MANY songs that sound SO similar and people still lick their arses.

I hate Linkin' Park, Man. They only play like one riff for every song and the only styles of music they ever mix up are, like, rap and metal.
No offence though, cuz' I used to like them in 2001, but now I got into prog. rock and jazz and stuff. That's just my opinion. [shadow=red,left,300];DSMAUG;D[/shadow]

They certainly do not deserve all the praise and publicity they get. There are PLENTY of far more original and talented bands. For example, King Prawn were an incredible example of genre-mixing (punk, metal, ska, hip-hop, drum n bass, reggae), great beats, good to dance to, often powerful messages in the songs, but now they've split up. Meanwhile Linkin Park churn out remixes of their first hit time and time again and they reach hot spots in the charts.

My favorite band!
Hey, guys you base your opinions on listening to the singles...Listen to the other songs too. I don't see really two songs that are the same...
Look at the guitarist. He's awesome. Search "Linkin Park Tuning" on Google and you see what I mean. Tuning like a 7-string guitar on a 6-string one...Crazy.
Why do you say that they are not original?? A D-Jay and a Emcee in a band...Isn't that original?? If not, I don't know what is...

I feel compelled to reply to the points raised in Xnay's post , despite it being another revived topic. I see nothing wrong with basing one's opinion of a band on their singles (unless of course they don't release singles), as they are chosen to be so because they are one of the strongest songs on an album and they help to sell it, or because they're the band at their best. You don't release the worst songs off an album as singles . A guitarist isn't awesome because he can turn his machine heads so that the strings are flopping about on the fretboard. If that was the case, then Slipknot's guitarists would be virtuosos? If you listen to something like 'As I Am' or 'Honor Thy Father' off Dream Theater's latest 'Train of Thought' album, not only are the 6 string guitars tuned down two steps (so the lowest string is C), but the guitar solos are hard enough to play on air guitar ^_^. The solos and the riffs =D. Slipknot have a DJ. It works with their music, because it's essentially Metal with Hip Hop influences (listen to 'Spit It Out' or something), i.e. what Nu-Metal was about when KoRn released their self-titled. It doesn't really work with a pop band .

Meh...when you're releasing a single before the actual album the other songs are not created/finished yet. The single is probably chosen with the music tastes of the band members. Of course it can't satisfy everyone.

I hate Linkin Park. They strike me as singing songs that a 6th grader might write while he contemplates cutting his wrists with plastic scissors that are sitting on the desk right next to him. All the while, he's thinking about how everyone in that room is a sheep and ponders what else he has to live for.
It's a hard life, that of a 6th grader.

Of course it can't satisfy everyone. Singles released before albums are to my knowledge normally released off a full set of album songs a week before the album's release, and for mainstream bands such as LP, I would imagine that the record company would select the songs which it thinks will do best in the charts. ..as for TheJacket's comments, they're spot on ^_^.
