No, not you. That was just to get your attention. Well... here's my question. Why the f**k do certain game companys make main character who don't speak at all? (Chrono Trigger, BoF 1/2/3/4) it ruins the whole personallity.

I think that their original reasoning behind doing so was to create the illusion that the player WAS the character. I seem to recall an interview with a Square executive on Chrono Trigger saying that putting words into the mouth of the main character made the player less able to imagine himself/herself as the character...or something like that.
I agree and disagree with that assumption. On one hand I agree because...well...take the latter half of the final fantasy series. The player is more like a person watching a movie, or a person reading an unfolding story. They never really get the sense that they ARE Tidus, Squall, Cloud, etc. I certainly would not place myself in the shoes of a self-centered jerk like Squall (as I thought he was for the majority of the game). Also, in games like Baldur's Gate, the character never speaks, yet the dialog choices given allow the player to shape himself/herself in a variety of ways and receive great character-building feedback in the form of NPC responses (something Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire did for the most part to varying degrees of success).
However, I, personally disagree with the no voice device -- I think, and you probably would agree, that we the players, need to feel an emotional connection to the main character rather than a need to BE the main character. Being a big fan of in-depth character development, games like FF, Xenogears, and Lunar were a pleasure to play because many of the characters displayed such a range of indentifiable emotions and thought processes. We can relate to them, which I believe is more important than a device which supposedly allows us to play vicariously through non-speaking heroes.
But as usual, I digress...I believe it was a failed experiment for the most part. Any thoughts on this?

Serge is pretty cool too. Funny thing I saw somewhere else, and repeating it here. A conversation between Crono and Serge:
Crono: ... Serge:... Crono: ... Serge:... Crono: ... Squall: ...... Serge:... Crono: ... Serge:... Crono: ...

I think it's funny when you go into Serge's Status and it says his "class" or whatever is SILENT PROTAGANIST

I like Serge to. But in some cases people not talking is a good thing, it could have been worse ...they could have talked like Kid... Fav CC chara = Harle or Zoah

Yeah. I think it was a failed experiment too. When they give you options like: "Ryu, what do you think of me?" - You're pretty. - You're ugly. It might just change the text after, but it won't do anything important. And I've never played CC.

Harle is awesome, but I like Kid too. Glenn is probably my favorite CC character though. *can't wait for Chrono Break*
