Funny, the disc drive that Sony was making for the N64 had a part in it... until Sony blew off Nintendo and made the PlayStation with the technology, and that's when Square decided to move the Final Fantasy over...

Had a part in what?
Square has commented on having bad relations with Nintendo in the past.

Had a part in the whole Square eventually ditching Nintendo thing. Sony pulled out of it, and used the Disc Drive to create the PlayStation.
Square disliked the N64's cartridge format, and preferred CDs to store the game's memory... and we all know the rest after that.

Yeah they did prefer the CD format more but Square said it was because Nintendo wasn't "treating" them right, not primarily because of the format. They did alot with cartridge and still couldv'e.

Actually, it was Nintendo who blew Sony off. Nintendo cancelled the project like, two days before the press anouncement, so Sony went off and created their own console, just to spite Nintendo, if nothing else.

Yes but we were talking about Square and not Sony, at least that's what I thought. Nintendo snubbed Square as well. Then Sony paid Square to go with them but that was afterwards.
This CD system thing was a while back. When the SNES was in reign. I have the NP with the info about it. Square was in fine relations with Nintendo at the time at least to the public.

Hehe. I remember the N64 being called the Ultra 64, and looking like an XBox (I think I do, anyway). Never saw those pictures, though. They don't actually look too bad. The chocobo at the bottom's cute, ^_^.

That looks pretty good for Square's first 3D job. I'm amazed the didn't use it.
