Some, I'm making a game named Eyes before and here are a couple of features for it:
Each character has 1 skill tree and they get 1 skill point every 2 levels (I'll be using magic users for examples from here on). Now first you get to choose what spell like: Flame, Ice, Thunder. Summon etc. they all start from their own root. You can add up yo 5 skill points on one spell (this will make the spell more effective). Then when you get to a certain level and you have a lvl 1 fireball you get to get a new fire spell Note: You don't need to specify on one elemental house if you don't want to. It's also recomended that you don't do that since there are dual combo skills. Like lvl 2 fire spell + lvl 2 ice spell = some cool spell you can't get without those 2 other spells. It's kinda like Diablo 2, no? And as inq gave me advice I'm gonna add a feature that as you lvl up you don't get stats but insted you recive a certain amount of stat points and you have to set the stats points on stats. And then that some enemies are immune to some technics wich will make it simply a MUST to take other skills than just boosting one skill in to some uber god skill

Well as you pointed out I've already read about this system on GGZ, so I don't really have anything else to add. But it will make combat more difficult and tactical.

I know, and thats good. I liked the Legion Saga series alot but LS3 was pretty easy since you could win it by just attack and that is something im not trying to aim at. I'm thinking more widely

Unlike D2 which is basically all hack and slash work even with the skill tree. I think that the Default battle system is too easy anyway seems it's turn based.

I know, I could make a CBS but that would mean that my game would never get finished. And there arent many completed games with a CBS

I agree,most spend more times on a CBS then the game itself.
Sound like a quite good system you got there,plus it won't make the battle as easy as just attacking(quite a lot of games seems like that).

I might even add some restrictions for items so no low level can get his hands on some over powered weapon or armor. Instead you need to be the right lvl and need to have a certain amount of strenght and/or agility
