I just got the new rock opera from Arjen Lucassen - Ayreon, The Human Equation and I must say, I am impressed. I stuck on the CD and immediatly I was hooked. The intro riff to the second song "Isolation" made my hair stand on end and when I heard the song "Love" I knew I was hooked. Arjen Lucassen did an amazing job and picked some of the most amazing vocalists around! They include - James LaBrie (Dream Theater) Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) Arjen Lucassen himself, Heather Findley (Mostly Autumn) and a new, undiscovered vocalist - Marcela Bovio. If you haven't heard of it before I HIGHLY reccomend it, if you want to find out more about it check out Aryeon's offical site - www.ayreon.com If you have got it or heard it what did you think?

After having heard you go on and on and on about it, I finally got my hypothetical wallet out and gave some butterflies a new home.
I don't think much more needs to be said than the first words to escape my mouth upon the end of Disc 1 ("f00kin 'ell") and Disc 2 ("f**king amazing"), although I always like to elborate, even when unnecessary.
I've only listened to Disc 2 once-through, but I put Disc 1 on my mp3 player and have had it playing all morning. I think that the vast variety of musical styles, both within the vocals and the music are astounding: there are some really heavy pieces, some really slow pieces, some really folky, some really musical-esque, and I think that 'Pain' sounds very emo-ish, and the main riff in 'Pride' is positively Nu-Metal-tastic! Every singer is great (albeit some have very unique styles) and the music is top class.
My only niggles are that the story is a little too straight-forward (I would have preferred to dig my teeth in a little deeper with the lyrics), but it's a great story anyway (loved the ending) and that there are a few patchy lyrics, although they were written by a Dutch guy, and the bad lyrics are still amusing. Teh amazing.
