What really bothered me about the Shotan/Black Knight thing (yes, that again), was what it all seemed totally backward. Shotan was the one who had reason to hunt down and butcher the Black Knight (he stabbed out his eye, for heaven's sake), yet the Black Knight was the one doing all the hunting and "I hate you" attitude. Did I miss something there?
The characterisation in the LS series is, in my opinion, not done very well. There are loads (legions even) of characters that could be fleshed out and made interesting, but they're overshadowed by the fact that the main characters seemed to be on a total ego trip. True, all that extra stuff would probably triple the length of the games, but I really don't see how that's a problem.

The idea with the Black Knight was that he was trying to hunt Shotan and recapture him because in a way he had been stolen from him. It doesn't really work though...
As for the characters; laziness on my part, Duff. I admit there could be more characterization but I would just like to point out, as lame an excuse as it may be, that not everybody joins the army with significant moral reasons and an interesting story behind them. I know it shouldn't really apply to an RPG because it's boring but it's somewhat true don't you think?

To be honest, I'd be frightened and overwhelmed if every NPC had a deep and meaningful reason to join the army. I was thinking more along the lines of the playable characters and prominent NPCs. Also, how come we never got to butcher Dansa? Depending on how many characters you got (which doesn't make a whole lot of sense anyway), he either got chased away, or just crushed humanity with a huge lump of rock. I was hoping that you'd have to force him to chase you back to earth and then slaughter him. I'd have enjoyed doing that.

There's something you mustn't forget Duff.
The bad ending thing was made so you would search for the characters, which gives you more gameplay and side quest, many used this idea in their game, that if you didn't complete some side quest the ending would be different, you may say this has no sense, but at least,it makes the player play more and not saying that the game is boring and has not enough side quest and all.

[glow=red,2,300]LS3 SPOILERS BELOW[/glow]
Dansa was killed in the end. The Legion Sword was the physical embodiment of Dansa all along, so they could have destroyed the sword while it was in the mortal realm but they didn't realize until they were in Avalon. Killing a god is impossible unless they take a mortal form (like Valmot did). Gods must take mortal forms to exist outside of Avalon. Dansa was still in his mortal form (the Legion Sword) when he fought the Legion so he was able to be destroyed.
Then if you kill a god immense instability is caused across the world and in the laws of physics and the fabric of space and time itself, until the others gods are able to or choose to take on the dead god's role between them.
If you got the good ending then Ysud, God of Balance, decided that the Legion was worthy of sparing and so resumed universal stability, which in turn prevented Avalon from falling and destroying the world.

I personally hated LS3, because everytime i think of it, i see a picture in my mind of the hero from suikoden 2 swinging his weapon. LS3, in my opinion seems to copy suikoden 2 in every way possible. The castle (obiously), the fact that Kima was once in an army, and the duels. LS1 and LS2 were great, especially LS1. I also liked the appearance of shotan in every one.

My favourite character, by far, was Taisu. He might not have had an interesting back story (Yet) but his sprite and face set was AWESOME!
On another note, why is everyone so hard on LS3? I'll admit, I haven't played Suikoden but even if it did have a lot of similarities like what I've heard wasn't Kamau's purpose to basically create an RM2K version of Suikoden? Plus, to the best of my knowledge you never fight a God in any of the Suiko games. ;D

My only thing against Legion Saga 3 was the senseless destruction of basically everything you worked so hard to save in LS1 and LS2...
Anywho, back on topic....
My favorite characters include the following--
Xaetrix Csozhia (I have recently taken a huge liking to Orogai) Cid Regule Valmot (mainly for his badass sprite) Pergris+Meest (don't as why)

I couldn't stand the whole royal thing. All the main characters of the LS series were of some royal family. How come you didn't think of a hero without a title? A kind of guy who isn't a noble? And that character will rise up to be a strong leader or something. The best stories start out with a commoner or militant

If Dansa is basically a sword, doesn't that make him the god of war? Besides Dansa what are the names of the other gods?

Dansa is not a sword. Gods typically do not have a physical form, they are just entities. Dansa assumed the form of the Legion Sword.
Dansa - God of Life and Death Ysud - God of Balance Gaia - Goddess of Nature Brohmus - God of Progression
There will be more but I haven't decided on them yet. ;D
Also there was Valmot but he was cast out of Avalon as we all know. He was the God of Identity if I remember correctly.

Kima wasn't royal, was he? His family just owned Milamo.
