The three Legion Masters and Ossal for number 3.
Nastra, Orson, Angram (why I had to take a level 6 character to fight Barbatta was beyond me), and Victor.
I haven't played LS1.
I never see a need to get most of the characters, and I'm still puzzled as to how not having all 40 legionnaires in LS3 causes the end of the world. I would have imagined side quests involving plot issues would have made more sense.

Kamau messed up in the first version and it recorded you having 41, not 40, legionnaires.

Yeah, but the thing is I'm curious as to exactly how not having everyone causes the end of the world... doesn't seem to make much sense.

The whole point is that you're missing something if you don't get them all, so the player will be more motivated to play the game again to get the good ending.
I agree that you should get the good ending no matter what. And did LS3 follow the ending in LS1 where Eva died or not?

In LS2 and 3, they both followed the one where Eva died. In the one where Eva lived, Greibis ruled the country.

In LS2 you could have it so Eva wass alive, but that would of been hard to program for LS3 so I guess Kamau gave up on it. Maybe he should add some stuff about Nastra and Ridman being elected king even if they weren't rulers already. As for Fuba and Eva, they just dissapear...

Yes, but if you're going to put multiple endings in, one should make these shifts make sense. Why the world needs to be destroyed because you didn't get everyone is nonsencial.
Oddworld has a similar ending shift based upon the number of Mudokens/Fuzzles you rescue, but it makes sense in there- In Abe's Oddysee, when Abe is captured and about to be sent into the meat grinders, depending on the number of Mudokens you've rescued, you'll either get the Good Ending where the rescued Mudokens rescue you, or the Bad Ending where a few argue with Bigface about how bad you did and ultimately let you get pureed. This makes sense. In LS3 the shift based on characters does not.
Frankly, Kamau could have done more a FF6 with one ending, but use the other characters as side quests to develop the overall story.
Just my thoughts.

I explained this in another thread recently but I forget which one If you have recruited everyone then Ysud acknowledges that the Legion is strong and humans are a determined, hard-working race so the gods decide to spare them.

Uh, okay, that explains the basis for the good ending, which was pretty obvious, but this doesn't explain how, for example, not taking the child from the music school causes the world to end...

Think about it. Even the children were determined enough to save the world. That should impress the gods.

...I think Ysud should've let the humans die..yes, it would've worked brilliantly. Make a clean slate, then realize their mistake, and make something better; the Orogai seem a heck of a lot more competent..

The bad ending was almost a joke if you took Lisa with you. It seems perfectly serious. And then Lisa says, "Noooo..! This sucks!" which made me laugh out loud. I know it's her character, but still...

I know it's her character, but still... Remember, Lisa is a kind of strange heroine. She's brave (or foolish) but isn't that smart (why the heck did she mistake some girl for Kima?). I don't really understand what Kima and Lisa's relationship is built on.

Kafen: It's Agram not Ershin! Ershin is the charset I used from Breath of Fire 4.
BMZ: The woman was at the other side of the village and had long blonde hair like Kima, she could have been quite easily mistaken at a quick first glance. It doesn't mean Lisa is stupid, although she can be quite ignorant at times (like when you first enter the Amun'Rah temple).
