Voodoo Vince
"A Cheesy game character, if there ever was one.
Genre: 3D Platformer Puzzle
Platforms: Xbox
Publishers:Microsoft
Developers: Beep Industries
Players: 1 Player
Voodoo Vince was something I got with Unreal Championship, I bought both games in a double pack offer. Kinda good deal.
Now, over many years of Platform games; most have proceeded and succedded in giving us many Mario and Sonic clone games. Not many stand out. Most tend to be repetive rip-offs of over games created before them. Alas, Voodoo Vince is a breath of fresh air, original and fun.
Vince, the name of the doll is an inactive Voodoo Doll. He is the main character in the game, one night; his owner is captured by the evil Kosmo, and Vince is bought to life by magic dust and he has to rescue his owner. Cheap, storyline huh? If it wasn't for the fantastic voice acting, Vince's cool attitude and the fantastic humour involved, I'd of skipped the cutscenes. Where this game lacks in Storyline, it's distinct charm will entrance many gamers everywhere.
"A game that doesn't take itself seriously.
The Gameplay isn't lacking either. All the simple basics of a platform are contained in this game; ledges, enemys, jumping; many things. However, what Vince can do is quite deep. Vince can hover, interact with items (although there aren't many.), punch, spinattack and swing across the maps. While he can attack the enemys, he also has Voodoo Power that he can use against them too effect multiple enemies at once, collect a certain amount of to power up your Voodoo Attack and then you can use it, all enemys within the area get killed. There are many power ups to be collected to add to Vince too. In spite of all this, the platform system on this game; Is average. It's not what stands out, the Puzzle aspect of the game is brilliant. Many different puzzles are given to you and carefully laid out and unique clues allow the gamer to do it his/her own way. Which adds a specific level of freedom to the game. The Puzzle System is brilliantly used. The gameplay in this game is tip - top.
"Original and Entertaining."
Technically, this game is pretty impressive; Vince shows off what the Xbox can do, Graphics are of a high level, the areas you go around in are big and explorable and never witness any show of slowdown or technical glitches. The Music and Sound effects are of a high standard too; the games Jazz theme really suits this game down to the bone. Humouresque sound effects when Vince dies and when he returns; "I'm still here?" , little things like that really give the game some sense of class. Funny, Eye-Candy and Ear Candy, all of a nice standard.
"A Cute platformer."
The depth for this game is fairly good, many different gameplay modes that you can revisit; there are many different vechicles, such as, RocketPlane, Fanboat, Submarine, Bumper Car: all add unique aspects to the gameplay. Vince never feels repetive, each level plays so differently it's hard to let it cross your mind. However; No Multiplayer. Making Vince, a Sunday night game, in some sences. The game itself isn't addictive, you will enjoy it for what it offers, but you wouldn't spend hours on it at a time, if you read me. In, all Voodoo sounds good, but isn't something that will keep you all afternoon.
"Vince is Sonic, with a different outfit on."

Conclusion
There are so many good things about Voodoo Vince, but there are also so many bad things about it. Voodoo Vince is far from a bad game, in fact it's quite good. It's just it doesn't hold your attention for long as many other platformers would. But, it's a good one, at least one of the best for the Xbox and it's a solid title. I'd suggest renting this before buying it.
