I have no idea what Metallica are classed as but I've never liked a song of that genre. But ST. Anger rocks! I d/l it because it was the theme song to WWE SummerSlam and I love it. What do you think of it?

... *cries*.. *throws up organs*
I'm dumbfound how anyone could like new metallica.. but at least you download them thats good.. Tell Lars the drummer. he'll be glad to find that out..
as for metallica's classification.. they're older stuff is metal.. but they're newer stuff (like most mainstream US music) I've dubbed Medio-Core..
If you wanna get into actaul metal I suggest start on a band like Down or Pantera. Then get into NothingFace and Atreyu. Then look into the european stuff, like Emporer and Opeth.

The first Metallica songs that I heard were "The Four Horsemen" and "I Disappear". Not exactly a good starting point. And then I happened to come across their new song, "St. Anger". As much as I want to like it, I couldn't bring myself to enjoy the musical equivalent of constipation. I then bought fairly cheaply (I still bought, though!) 'Master of Puppets' and 'Kill 'Em All', and although 'Kill 'Em All', wasn't the best, 'Master of Puppets' was astounding. When I got around to getting hold of more of their stuff, I even enjoyed 'The Black Album' immensely, which would fit perfectly next to my Bon Jovi collection (I'll get around to buying it soon! ^_^). Their new stuff is awful, though: an attempt to retain their 90s sound whilst trying to come across as heavier fails miserably, in which even the production is sloppy (which is hard to understand, as I preferred the production on the later records to the older ones, and also the way Hetfield sang ). They're one of the bands that I've recently only gotten into, because I was put off by their refusal to return to form (or their incapability, too, I don't know). Their older stuff rocks, it's just that their newer stuff doesn't . I also picked up (as in purchased) 'Vulgar Display of Power' by Pantera a while back, and that's pretty nifty, although it does tail off about half-way through. Heavy for 1992, though! EDIT: As the original post is more of an insight than a review, this should probably hop along to General Discussion.

If you're interested in Metallica and metal, may I suggest some Rammstein?

as for european metal goes, rammstein is kinda inbetween.. not bad, but not all that great.. I highly recommend Opeth, Emporer, and Katatonia(especailly their new album). as for Us metal.. NothingFace, Slayer, Atreyu, Anal thingy(just read the titles of the songs and albums), Dillinger Escape Plan, and well I could go on for a while..

Metallica's new stuff isnt any good, the only new song I like is Frantic, and even still I dont like it as much as "Master of Puppets" "Enter Sandman" or "The Unforgiven"
So lets hope they make up on their next album, presuming they record another album.

Metal bands only make comebacks from mediocre albums. I think Metallica have basically shot themselves in the foot with St. Anger. And then in the head . I'm glad that 80s Metal bands are making their mark upon the scene, although I think there are currently more consistent records in the making (or out, as with Maiden's new CD, which I'm eventually going to get my hands on ). Judas Priest's new album with Halford back in the line-up is shaping up to be great, too. I don't think Metallica are going to be allowed to make another record, as the sales will inevitably be reduced significantly as a direct result of their latest set. If they do, it'll probably be on Metal-Is Records . It'll get downloaded a lot, though, as it's the type of music that you wouldn't mind giving a whirl, but wouldn't want to spend money on.
