Here's the criteria I'll be using: Story/Plot, Technical Background, Characters, Suspence, and Overall.
Story: 2/2.5 Decipher seems to have an interesting story. There's going to be a solar flare that will fry everything on Earth in the year 2012, when the Mayan Doomsday Prophecy takes place.
However, humanity's only hope is to decipher an ancient language from the lost city of Atlantis on how to use a set of ancient moments around the world to divert the upcoming cataclysm.
To solve this, a motley crew of scientists are patched together in a last ditch attempt.
The bad side about this story is the whole Atlantis angle is a bit cheesy. Decent and complex, though.
Technicial Background: 2.4/2.5 This book took Stel Pavlou five years to write. His technical research of everything from weapons to nanotechnology to physics to archeology to ancient cultures is amazing.
However, there is one thing that was bit of a mistake. The Mayan Doomsday prophecy is Dec. 21, 2012, not March 21, 2012 as in the novel.
Characters: 1/2.5
A rather diverse cast, but more shallow than a piece of cardboard.
Suspence: 2/2.5
The sole problem is it takes a while to get excited. However, it picks up dramatically halfway through the novel.
Overal: 7.4/10
Grab this book. It's great. You won't regret reading it.
