Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix is J.K. Rowling's latest novel as you almost certainly know. After reading the book, I have decided to make a review on it. This is my first review attempt so it may not seem very proffessional.
As you are likely to know, there are five Harry Potter books so far. I have decided to give a score out of ten to the previous four:
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (Or sorcerors if your American) - 6/10
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - 6.5/10
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - 8/10
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - 9/10
The reason I gave the first book such a low score was because I compared it with the other books.
Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
The novel begins in the usual way with Harry being at Privet drive with his uncle, aunt and cousin. The book seemed to start off slower than the others and I found myself quite unimpressed. However, as the book progressed (Mainly from when the students got to Hogwarts) the book improved greatly.
The way the story was told - 8/10
I enjoyed the characters a lot and I thought it was clever to make Harry seem a lot more moody than usual. This made Harry look more like a typical teenager instead of type of person you wouldn't normally meet (Excluding his magical abilities of course). His friends, Ron and Hermione, also acted more like teenagers of that age.
The new characters introduced were inventive and I enjoyed the way that J.K. Rowling had yet another Defence Against Dark Arts teacher and still managed to make the teacher unique.
Characters - 8...I dropped two points purely because I wouldn't think students to be brave, fearless and have the ability to take on adults.
The writing in the novel was the same style as the others. There was nothing exceptionally new here, however, it would have been nice if Rowling had made the language slightly more "adult" as the books progressed, to allow HP fans to learn new and harder language.
Dialogue/Writing - 7
Overall I think the book was 8/10
The book was not as good as the Goblet of Fire, but it is still a very enjoyable novel and well worth the read. I would recommend it to people and I would suggest that people who hate the series, just because other people like it, should give the books a chance.
