Sleeping is the latest release from veteran designers Life Software. I was able to get my hands on a pre-release alpha build, and can say I am eagerly anticpating this title.
Graphics: Hit and miss. Most of the time, you're faced with a redundant black screen. However, Life is saying that these will be fixed in the release version, which will focus more on their much-touted "dream sequences". The dream sequences employ a great new graphics engine, whcih features many free-form models, and varying textures. When we asked if they realized how similar the look was to that of XBox's "Psychonatus", Life represntative Dave Bowyer said "No comment"
Control: This is where it really shines. You have conplete control over anything your character does. However, this ability must first be obtained by collecting enough "awareness" icons. When you start, everythign is sluggish, and you are bound by exaggerated physics. However, afetr collecting 10 of these awareness icons, you gain the ability to fly, run at impossible speeds, and other superhuman feats.
Sound: Stil in early stages. A lot of times, the character speech is inaudible, and all backround music is highly forgettable. Life stressed the fact that sound was the part they have worke don the least so far, but it will be greatly improved upon before release.
Replay: Life is extremely proud of the fact that Sleeping's dream sequences will all be randomly generated, makign replay value infinite. They accomplish this with a new game engine that Life has designed from scratch, and took a reported two years to devlop.
Overall, Sleepign looks like a title to be looking forward to. Other departments of life Software are also working on different titles, still very early in production. Bowyer was able to give us the tentative titles of some of these projects. They inclue Eating, Talking, and Sitting
