From Final Fantasy I to Final Fantasy X, Nobuo Uematsu was the main composer. He had his own style of music. Now, a new Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy X-2, and now Nobuo Uematsu is no longer the composer. The style of FFX2's music is obviously not the same as the previous FFs. In-fact, it is totally diffrent.
The soundtrack starts with "Eternity ~Memory of Lightwaves~ which is a pretty calm music, which would let you wonder if this is the style of the soundtrack. To answer that -- no, it isn't.
The style of the tracks is Techno/J-Pop music. This has not been used in any FF game before. From Final Fantasy I to Final Fantasy X, the music was the music of the scene. In FFX-2, the music is merely the background music. Most of the tracks were simply boring, and some were even distrubing. While there a few good tracks, overall, the soundtrack isn't good. It's not terrible, but it is indeed bad.
The tracks that I liked:
Disc One 02- Real Emotion 28 - Zanarkand Ruins
Disc Two 10 - Under Bevelle

Yes, J-pop is TERRIBLE.
The game is supposed to be techno isn't it? So a techno style doesn't seem too bad. However, I think the poor musics is also in FF11... I listened to this music called the Buccaneers. Now, I would have thought that to sound like a piratey/sailor style song. But it didn't seem to fit the style at all.
Lately the musics in FF games just don't seem to be as good. For example, the Thunder plains of FFX, that didn't seem to fit the area at all...

I only downloaded those tracks that Zeephos recommends above, and to be honest I didn't even really like those :/. FFX's OST showed Nobuo slipping a little (however, I still like FFX's OST), but FFX-2's soundtrack should hopefully show to Square-Enix that without him, the magic is lost. Not all J-Pop is bad, though: the song on Kingdom Hearts and that artist's other creations I'm quite fond of. Of course, you wouldn't have heard that, Inquis .

Yay! Zeephos is back! Stay for a while okay?
Blakeman, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Except you. ;D

I also recomend "1000 words" (I THINK thats the name) I dont have the soundtrack, but I DLed Real Emotion (which is a good change from the norm) and 1000 words.
Call me crazy, but I also loved "Otherworld" and "Suteki da ne" from FFX

but FFX-2's soundtrack should hopefully show to Square-Enix that without him, the magic is lost. I don't think it was Square's choice that Nobuo left, he was retiring, and if I remember correctly they had to beg him to compose what he composed of FFX's soundtrack. He didn't compose all of it, which explains the inconsistency in the quality of the music in FFX.

Okay, maybe "hopefully" was a bad choice of word for an unresearched statement . Apparently, the more mediocre tracks on FFX's soundtrack were Uematsu's, but I wouldn't know until I found out who composed what. Still, the offerings on FFX's soundtrack are much more in line with the rest of the series. What I've heard off FFX-2's OST just seems dull and lifeless.

Yeah, I heard a bit of FFX-2 tracks, and I hated them.
FFX, overall, had an enjoyable soundtrack.
Anyways, maybe Square will recruit the composer of Metal Gear Solid's soundtrack, Harry Gregson-Williams.

..I don't see them recruiting him..he's the same guy who made the soundtrack for that awesome Will Smith movie Enemy of the State..
The soundtrack for that was good, but first off, why would they want a person who usually makes soundtracks for espionage, and action kind of movies to make a soundtrack for FF? Besides, they still have that woman who made the soundtrack for Parastie Eve (the first), Live A Live, and Kingdom Hearts, all of which were good. She'd be much better at making an FF soundtrack in my opinion..
