I dunno... there's no Fuchicoma in it, and that was my favorite part of the manga....

The thing about the original Ghost in the Shell was the fact that it wasn't made in the same way as most mangas ie. no "crecendo" effect.
By that, i mean that rather than building it up to tear it all down in the finale, they start off with a high, work back down, and then have another explosive high-point.
That just makes it kinda... different, but doesn't detract from the quality of the movie.

Wha-? No Fuchicomas? That sucks. I read the manga and saw the movie, and frankly I prefer the manga because you can reread parts that make no sense (It happens alot). Also there's more in the manga. More is good.

Ghost in the Shell really set a precedent for great anime back in the 1990's, and was one of those things where I went into it expecting the worst, and came out with a big, happy, stupid grin on my face. ;D I'm hoping the second one will be even better than the first, personally. Actually, my disposition to GitS wasn't that bad back when I first started watching it. I'd played the game long beforehand on the playstation, though, (where you guide the fuchikoma across the levels..), and didn't go into it with very high hopes because of the poor quality of the game. Silly me.
