Just saw this yesterday, and I thought it was really good. There were some really good action scenes, and the animation was really good. They left out some major plot, but what can you expect for a 26? episode series in a 90 minute movie. I reccomend for everyone.

I haven't seen it, but I've heard it's very different from the series. Not neccessarily a bad thing - I wasn't a big fan of the show. Maybe I'll check it out sometime...

It is very different... You didn't like Escaflowne? It wasn't as good as Eva, but I liked it a lot. It was a very dramatic change from how morbid Eva was at the end to Escaflowne, it's more romantic and light-hearted (at least most of it) I hated the Luck Soldiers part though (you should see how they use those two in the movie...lol)

Well, it was good. It doesn't deserve the hype it gets, though. The plot was a bit disjointed and seemed to lose focus somewhat... and Hitomi was annoying. The sudden, completely unexplained, and dramatic changes with the characters in the second half sort of threw me for a loop, especially since they weren't explained real well.

It was, but to tell you PaulC if you didn't like the character development and such in the series, you won't like the movie. Hitomi and Van literally fall in love in a matter of about 5 minutes. I thought it was corny too, but I still like it. Also, Volken is only a bad guy, Dalando was just Dalando, Alan was some Cyber Punk guy, Draden was good, and Jujestu (the kobold guy, I believe) was just as good if not better than he was in the series.

Escaflowne was a beautiful anime, and had almost everything Eva had and in some places more. The plot gets a little hazy near the end, but I really enjoyed it and the characters. How can Hitomi be annoying, Paul? Asuka from Evangelion is annoying and I don't hear you complaining about her. So is Rei the pail pregnant dog. And let's not forget someone by the name of MISATO. Besides, Alan was just kick-ass. I wanted him to take me in his arms...erm...forget I said that.

I liked Hitomi, but she does seem more mature in the movie than in the series. In the series she seemed to be whining a lot, but she wasn't too bad. For the Eva characters, Asuka was annoying but that was her character, I don't see why Rei is annoying she really doesn't do or say much, and Misato is only really annoying when she gets drunk, past that she's fine.

I would like to point out that you are a fool and your opinions are ALWAYS wrong, Blake. Asuka was a well-developed character who actually experiences pain and hardships during the series. You really get an idea of why she is the way she is, and personally I don't find her anger half as annoying as Hitomi's pointless, unrealistic, spoiled whining. The characters in Escaflowne don't even come close to Evangelion's; for the most part, they are undeveloped and one-dimensional, and the changes in their personalities are random and unexplained (Folken's sudden turn to good, Alan's and later Van's instant change in attitude towards Hitomi). Even Misato, who you seem to like characterizing as a shallow fan-service character, is very well-developed later in Evangelion; she alone has more depth than the entire cast of Escaflowne combined. Evangelion also has a much stronger ending in End of Eva than Escaflowne's hazy conclusion, a much more dramatic and effective story, and is far more introspective, psychological, and deep. Sure, there are problems with Eva, but unless you refuse to look beyond first impressions, the characters are definitely not one of them. The same can't be said for Escaflowne.

Alan's change towards Hitomi was the result of the fate-changing (might be called different) machine that Isacc (I forget easily, is this his name?) used to attract Alan and Hitomi to each other. For Van he always desired Hitomi but for her power not love. Van's change baffles me too. Volken I'm not sure about, for a part of the reason for his change was the belief that he was always acting in the best intrests of Van and the fact that those twin cat-girls died and how their death was related to Zaibach (forgot that too). Overall, I think the characters in Eva are much more developed also.

Isaac used the Atlantian machine to change the fates of many of them, and so on...

The show was okay. I as usual liked the giant machines. The movie wasn't bad at all.
