www.simulation-argument.comTo sum it up I think it means: If you believe that the human race will one day reach a post-human stage i.e. we can create a fully simulated human brain, then it would be ignorant for you to believe that you are not in a matrix. So, do you think that we are the original, biological humans or are we merely a simulation of a highly advanced race?

The more important question is:
If we ARE in fact inside the Matrix - what can we do about it?
But we are not, so neh.

The Toltecs, some kind of wizzards/shamans from the american thingyula(don't know north or south) have a long tradition on this matter.Their philosophical system and traditions are identical to what is shown in ''Matrix''.Also there is a large bibliography on this matter by Carlos Castanenda who was a practitioner of the toltecs' way(as close to the Neo character as anyone I can think of). We might as well be in a Matrix no problem. It would want us to think otherwise anyway.

I AM THE ONE! MUHAHAHAHAHA
Ok, probably we arent in the Matrix. It needs so much memory to simulate one that it is nearly impossible to happen.

If we ARE inside some kind of simulation - does it matter? Reality is all in the mind anyway. I can't remember the first movie very well, but that one guy that was a traitor was the best character. He wanted them to wipe his memory and put him back in the matrix so he could live a 'normal' life in the matrix. The more important question is: If we ARE in fact inside the Matrix - what can we do about it? But we are not, so neh.

True. If I were to find out I was in one, I would try and do something. As long as you don't know about it, why be paranoid? Just enjoy yourself. I don't really feel like sitting in a closet for the rest of my days worrying about the subject.

In a world of simulation... pfffft.... I find that hard to believe. There is no matrix what so ever, and like The Patryn says, why be paranoid about it?
If we are in the matrix... then well what I said above is wrong XD but I doubt that we are in any kind of simulation or whatever... it seems impossible and fantasy like.

RajalTikana did you actually nother to go to the site and read some of the articles?
Clearly not. Because if you had you would not simply dismiss it as impossible and fantasy like.

I think the premise of this subject misses the point altogehter. The idea behind the Matrix is that we can never know either way; Descartes' evil demon (how do we know there isn't an evil demon deceiving us?). It's logicaly impossible to say either way so the poll receives my abstination.

And besides, there's always Hilary Putnam, who states we know we are not brains-in-a-vat because the phrase "BIV" refers to something outside our world that we have no concept or reference to, and therefore cannot mean what we are thinking of when we say we are "BIVs" unless we have some means of seeing the non-BIV world.
This goes under the idea that intentionality, rather than resemblance, determines meaning.

Continue this debate and we're getting too close for comfort to Wittgensteinian territory methinks.

I didn't bother to read the webpage posted, but now I am reading it and its starting to very much remind me of the movie the 13th floor.
A very good movie on this subject ^-^. Its spookier than the matrix.
