I DO NOT however feel remorse for the death of the troops who have been sent to Iraq... The people in this knew full well when they signed up for their army that being in an army, involves causing death and dying themselves. This people would have a certain bloodlust which would probably fuel their reason for joining. And don't try to tell me it was for, money, patriotism or companionship. Wum, you obviously have a severe misconception of people in the army. Sure, some people may get a sick satisfaction out of this so-called "blood-lust"; they may even have joined in order to fight (I doubt it). However, many more do not. My grandfather was drafted into the army at when he was younger than me. My uncle joined the army because his parents were struggling to make a living after coming to the US. My friends joined the army b/c their parents wouldn't pay for their college educations; a few years ago the idea of actually going to war never crossed their minds...heck, compared to the previous century, year 2000 looked like Heaven. And if you're not lying about your age, you obviously haven't been to college yet. Believe me, college tuition is NOT cheap when your parents refuse to help out. People in the army aren't always the guys you hear interviewed in bias magazines or the news (who are trying to promote the war anyway). They aren't gun-toting crazies who get off on killing. They're people, just like you, just like me: They're scared of dying, they have parents, girlfriends, and buddies who care about them back home. They don't want to kill or be killed any more than the next person. In response to your comments concerning Inquisitor, I'm not venting my frustration on him. I'm simply disturbed by his comments, which sound a little too inhumane to be coming from a seriously held belief.

Alright then, I know that some people join out of neccesity but there are other jobs that people can do in order to get money.
Think about the word Army. Arm A grouped of people who have been armed. The whole point of having an army is built around greed and selfishness. Now your grandfather was drafted into the army. This was not his own choice. If he dies then it would be a terrible thing because he had no control over it whatsoever. But your uncle and friend joined for money. Sure the money was needed for selfless reasons but if you join the army you must consider all possibilities. There is a chance you could go to war and there is a chance you could die. My cousin has just joined and is currently in training. He is a great guy and all (as I'm sure your friends are) but I still think that his decision to join is wrong.
I apologize if any of this doesn't make sense. The room next to me has just been painted and the fumes are getting to me..

Ok, I was going to stay out but Wum, you sir, have made a great mistake.
Armies are built out of selfishness and greed?
That is sheer insanity. Armies are built out of common sense and the decision that one wants their nation to continue in existance. Yes, some have used armies for the wrong reason. But don't you dare say that armies in general are formed from greed and selfishness. Those in these armies have died that you could have the freedoms you have.
Let me gather a few thousand men to come and ransack your town and we'll see if you don't want an army then.

Okay, you got me. I've read over your post a second time now with a clear head and I agree with you to a certain extent. I'll admit some phrases in my previous posts were incorrect. I have a massive headache at the moment and most of these words are fueled by emotion. And right now I'm too tired to attempt to explain what I really mean. I'll just say that I hate armies with a passion because I hate the whole concept around why they first came into existence. Tis a vicious cycle..
