I said I'd do it, so here you are.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Gender is definitely different than 'sex', as has been stated. I've never agreed with the traditional gender roles.
For ages, there have been 'acceptable behavior' "laws" for each gender. Men have always been the providers and the ones who make ends meet, while women raise the family and cook. That's a simple explanation for a simple way of looking at things. I believe those could be reversed without any problems.
What really upsets me is the media. Since the sixties, when television made the media more accessible by the general population, gender roles have deviated quite a bit from the traditional "man protect woman, woman stay at home" setup. However, it's just getting worse. If you've read my writings on society, you'll know how I feel about how the media abuses the malleability and naivete of kids. "Monkey see, monkey do".
I've noticed (and I'm sure you have, too) that TV commercials are customised for each TV show - simply, the commercials can tell you what the 'intended audience' of that show is. Watch "Spongebob Squarepants", and you'll get a rash of commercials about "Krazey Goo" and "SUPER FLYING NINJA ATTACKER MEN", showing that Spongebob's target audience is ignorant little kids. Watch MTV, and you'll get commercials about how to make yourself more sexually appealing, lose weight, or smell good - proof that MTV is made for shallow people who only care about exterior appearances and material goods. Watch Jerry Springer; they just have commercials for bail bonds or used cars or something - white trash.
It's sickening because the commercials for little kids are redefining gender roles. Today, the 'male' is supposed to be clean cut, sweet-smelling, and ultra-macho. The 'female' is even worse - ever hear of 'BRATZ' dolls? They're f**king sleepers, and it's turning most 7-14 year old girls into f**king sleepers too. As usual, it's also the parents' fault for letting their kids watch that worthless garbage. Three cheers for the materialistic and shallow human lust for money. It makes me wonder how the media execs sleep at night.
