I wrote this to a newsgroup, alt.suicide.methods, in an attempt to ease their pain or otherwise help them out.

Suicide is a foolish thing to do. Now, you may attempt to counter this statement with something along the lines of 'what else is there to do?' or perhaps even 'you've not experienced my situation'.
-One is not even sure if there IS such a thing as reincarnation or an afterlife, so who knows what will happen to you when you die?
-Don't feel bad about your situation. If you're devoted, strong, and intelligent, you can work your way out of it. The phrase 'you can do anything you set your mind to' is really quite true.
I am not very optimistic about how the world, as lived in by humanity, is turning out. I particularly hate the media. The media and bad parenting - the two main reasons the youth of America and the general populace is as close-minded, obstinate, and weak as it is. We're basically stuck in a vicious cycle: the media and industry gives us money for doing work, the media and industry creates cheap, morally and spiritually corrupting/weakening material objects, and we give them back their money in exchange for this worthless garbage. Whatever happened to being wealthy in spirit? That concept has died.
For a particularly good example, watch some toy commercials on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. It characterizes males as macho (and rather stupid) 'protectors', and females as "fashion divas" who are only conscious about the way they look on the exterior. It derives from the concept of 'material wealth is all that matters', something that is quite false. It is of my (not so) humble opinion that, as long as the media continues to create these things, and as long as parents allow their children to intake such stupifying refuse, America will collapse into chaos.
Already the youth is falling apart. No one cares about anything other than material goods and 'social status' - ie. the amount of sex one can get, drugs, alcohol, etc. It's disturbing, isn't it? Imagine the hell that will be the future when this generation grows up and 'takes over'. We're f**ked, eh? Fortunately, we're not; simply because we're in the minority - simply because we view the world differently (and when I say 'we', I mean people with minds of their own who do not attempt to meld with mainstream ideals), does not mean we cannot change it ourselves.
Humans are a weak race. The majority of us are influenced quite easily by the big box in our living room, or the billboards on the highway. I feel it's time we change that. You believe life is hopeless, that there's "no way out" and that there is nothing to live for? Hmph, to me it sounds like you've given up hope. NEVER do that. It is up to 'we' to change what 'we' seem to loathe so much. After all, why kill yourself when there's still so much you can do to right the wrongs?
