The Wastes . . . A barren land of varying terrain where the way of survival is the only way. There is no time for the weak, no persons to trust- One must guide his or her own feet through this wasteland that is as desolate as its name gives.
-=Technology=-
Technology in The Wastes is left over from ages past; From before the land was harsh, and from areas beyond the reach of The Waste's inhabitants. From eons ago, Eastern technology produced "guns" that fired beams of light- Natural air that is processed, compressed, and fired at extremely high velocities, which left purple streaks through the air, still exist. They are scarce and are practically all owned by the outsiders that guard the borders of The Wastes and prevent escape. Luckily, these weapons aren't omnipotent- They fire less rapidly than common crossbows. Repeating crossbows, rather large blades made of a distorted form of Molybdinum called Raud (mutated through unknown processes, easily the most abundant resource of The Wastes once you move 15ft below the surface, and easily extracted from it's ore through fire-heating. Once Raud solidifies from its molten state, it becomes slightly lighter than copper and harder than steel. Despite this, it still has an extremely low melting point and retains heat well, which causes any product of Raud to be utterly destroyed by simple flame) , and small, and basic electronic devices that are self-sufficient (generally solar powered, a few devices use the same technology as the old rifles to produce more power than they use, which allows for potential infinate power consumption with cooldown periods to allow new air to become available for processing) are the pinnacles of technology of the area. Most tribes and groups know of looms and other crafts besides weaponry that haven't been advanced upon in ages, but weaponry technology, being the most important in the constant struggle to survive- Keeps on getting better.
-=Climate and terrain=-
I WILL draw up a map, but I'm a lazy f**k, so I won't get it done THIS INSTANT. You'll get a commentary of the terrain then, because it would be too confusing to follow via text. Essentially, The Wastes are a series of areas -Three, to be precise- that have quite different terrains. The overall climate of the land is disturbingly constant . . . The temperature is at about 50 degrees farenheit during the day, and 25 degrees farenheit during the night. In the lowlands and mountains, it can get as low as 10 degrees farenheit during the day, and to 0 degrees farenheit during the night. On the plateaus, the temperature rarely goes below 50 degrees farheit, day OR night. The heat during the day will go up to about 80, usually.
-=Groups=-
There are literally hundreds of groups and tribes throughout The Wastes. Most of them are of minor importance . . . The ones that any of you will truly need to know are the following:
Sedra - This is the most influential group in The Wastes, and one of the very few stationary groups. The Sedra control about 90% of the Raud mining, which is what makes them so very powerful. They also control the flow of the river Cadras, and the lake of the same name which is the source of that river. The river Cadras supplies almost all of The Wastes with water, although when it gets to the mountainous Eastern regions, there are already clean water deposits there and what slow moving stream is flowing to that area is quite dirty and most likely diseased. The Sedra are ruled by families of dictators, and gender has never played a role in their society. There are constantly disputes between the Sedra and the countless tribes of the East, which usually end up in unnecessary slaughters of the Eastern groups.
Talhon - This is the main group of the East; Situated in a valley that is literally surrounded by water on all sides, spare a few spaces between lakes, their land is a natural fortress, with mountains, rivers, hills, and depressions stopping most invaders. Not much is known about their society beyond what the leaders of the Sedra say- They are barbaric and refuse to share their bountiful lands with the rest of the peoples of The Wastes.
Yusicadranominsawers (Yusis for short) - These people aren't exactly like the rest of the inhabitants of The Wastes. Something about them is strange . . . They openly greet travelers, helping them however they can, but all the while hiding their lifestyles completely from outsiders. It may be noted that Yusis are generally taller than the rest of the inhabitants of The Wastes, and they reside in small villages along the many Plateaus located centrally in The Wastes.
-=Extra Info=-
What makes The Wastes, The Wastes, you may ask? It has bountiful areas and plagued areas, and pluses and minuses just like any other! Well, here is the deal . . . No matter how powerful any group gets in The Wastes, unspeakable abominations come into The Wastes and destroy the land itself; They eat and tear to shreds anything that moves, but always manage to leave the least corrupted of whatever society that they ravage that weren't killed defending their lands, alive. Beyond that, a thick mist covers the land, with odd evenness . . . It never falters, it never wavers, and it always blocks most vision beyond 10 feet or so- At ground level, looking evenly, that is. One could stand atop a mountain and see tall landmarks for miles, for this fog only blankets the top 100 feet or so of the land.
The Wastes are unforgiving for those outside of the settled societies, with all manners of seemingly unearthly beasts roaming the countryside. One fact of note is that they have never, EVER been recorded attacking the guardsmen that prevent passage through the borders of The Wastes- Those that have given the lands this horrid name.
-=The RP=-
Well, now that I've lost 90% of all potential RPers, I want to say "Sup". Everyone starts with the Sedras, and must go along with the limits of the technology. The reason that the group is leaving the safety of their city? The pelts of a certain beast aptly named as "rippers" are filled with bristles that are hard and flexible and strong, so much so that they are often used for making light armors to covering houses, to making blankets out of them to smother fires. These beasts are quite fast, agile, and strong, in addition to having fire resistant, armor-like fur.
It's sorta like Cheers . . . Everybody knows your name. Some other information is that the group has been friends for about a year, and have hunted lesser game quite a bit, but are going after rippers for the first time. They are meeting at the North-Eastern gates of a Eastern city in Sedra's lands called Homestead. The numbers on the gates read "4".
