Thorn was looking more like a demon now. Johne and the others in the inn could only watch with fear. A large scar formed down the center of Thorn's face and body. He let out a scream and leapped up. Thorn broke out throught th front of the inn and began to run through the town's streets. A young girl noticed the necklace that laid on the stairs. She picked in up and decided to ran away Thorn.

Zero quickly gathered up as many members of the Azure Blade as he could, and they all mounted on their dragons and flew to the gates. Zero flew with a young recruit named Xanos, who had already drawn an arrow and was getting ready to let it fly. The dragon, Valorious, was not as strong as others but very cunning. He was smart enough to think up strategies for advanced arial combat. They swooped down on a purple dragon and its two riders, Zero goring the one up front with his Halberd, and Xanos firing an arrow into the beast's skull. The remaining rider fell off and crashed into the ground far below. Xanos leaped off Valorious and ran to a tower that contained several men firing arrows at the incoming enemies. Zero, now free to fight his own way, quickly let Valorious take control. The riders were decent enough when it came to swooping down on foot men, but they were faily inexperienced in the ways of air fighting. A few moments later, five more men and two dragons were dead, but he'd suffered a few scratches from the tips of the steel spears. The air battle would o quickly, but the ground battle with the undead fiends would be a different matter...

Culhilien watched him in silence as he slept in discomfort. She wished to allow him to sleep peacefully for once. She wondered if she were to ask him of his dreams, would he tell her. She scanned his face over, with a look of pity towards him. She continued to wipe his face with a tender care, hoping to bring him what little comfort she could.
A smile slid to her lips, yet it didn’t quite reach her eyes, as he awoke. She paused, and withdrew the cloth from his forehead. Her heart fluttered when hearing the rumble of his voice that oddly had its ways of soothing her and at the same, bestowing an excitement and thrill. His words, though brief, were all she needed.
Sighing lightly with content, she let him draw her near in his warm embrace. She kissed his forehead softly, then rested her head gently on his chest, her hands folded composedly under her chin as she watched him a moment in silence. At that moment she realized that she only felt truly safe with him, protected from the whole world in his arms. This thought only made her feel ashamed that she should expect such a high expectation from him, or from anyone; she could take care of herself fine.
Mentioning the earlier battle didn’t seem like a wise idea. He was weary, and she could see it. There was no need to burden him further by asking how things went, she already knew. Yet something was needed in place, something she could say to bring him more at ease. She was never really great with words of affection. She didn’t even know how to take a compliment from others.
“How do you feel…?” Her word were softly spoken in a melody she seemed to possess, her emerald eyes seeming to collect the dim light of the room, fixed calmly on him.

Switching combat gears, Valorious and Zero swooped down upon a small group of undead warriors who were wielding Obsidian swords. Zero drove his Halberd into the ranks while zooming by, sending the strange blood on the creatures' splattering all over the place. Valorious bit off one's head, and took out two more with the claws on his feet and hands. As the duo flew back upwards, Zero got a look at how the Azure Blade was faring. The dragons had been beaten back, and would not be a problem for much longer, but the damage had been done. The undead soldiers continued to march forward, undaunted by the scores of their forces that were brought down. Zero was about to swing around for another pass when he noticed real trouble: a pair of large beasts, about the size of Valorious and the other dragons with shiny silver-colored exoskeletons marched forward, undead archers on their backs. In a bold move, Zero had Valorious swoop down on a group of warriors while he jumped off. He came up in a roll and drove his weapon at one of the creature's hearts, but his Halberd's blade cracked and broke! Without hesitation, Zero drea his sword and jumped onto the thing's back, quickly dispatching the two riders.

Finally, the enemy forces charged at Rolin and Ehre. With two swings of their mighty weapons, the first wave of foes was dispatched. Both warriors separated and attacked any of the enemies stupid enough to not run, usually cutting them in half. Mearas lowered his back, and the remaining warriors of the Azure Blade mounted. Rolin and Ehre jumped on Mearas' back as he was taking off, just in time for Mearas to whip away the only undead close enough to stop them with his tail.
Mearas landed in the small camp by the first wall that was attacked, where many soldiers from various groups were fighting back to back to hold the enemies from getting over the wall or creeping up from behind. Only a few dozen villagers made it to the closest thing to safety, which was that camp.
Suddenly, a section of the stone wall, only about 50 meters away, exploded as a large worm-like creature crashed through, mounted by undead bearing bows and arrows. The undead forces streamed through this whole going in every direction, with the majority of them headed for the camp.
The small barricades made of crates, furniture, and various other items creating makeshift barriers to slow down the undead were quickly and easily overcome by the oncoming horde, with only its own fallen hinderingthe movement.
Just as the final clash of the remaining forces at the camp was about to commence, a great rumble was heard in the distance, coming from all directions . . . It was above, it was below, it was North, South, East, and West. The earth shook violently, but no cracks were formed; This was no mere earthquake . . .

Thorn was lock in a bright darkness. He could sharp branching pain ripe through his chest. There was a great horrible pounding through out his skull. His limbs were numb yet corsing with unimaginable pain. He could still hear though.. sounded like.. like a battle. "un..dead..." He heard himself mudder. Thorn knew what happened. "m..must.. get.. Agate.. n..necklace" He incoherantly managed to say.
While the Battle raged outside, Thorn's physical state began to become voilent. It atemped to slaughter villigers with it's acidic spit. The young girl that pick up Thorn's necklace was stopped by Johne. "What do you think you're doing, young lady?" He said, in an almost comedic way. "Sir, I.. I think this," she held up the necklace, " I think this will help the man." "hmm.. Give my that!" Johne rudely grapped the necklace out of her hand. "Now run along an play," He said while taking out his sais.

Zero drove his sword through the mouth of the armored creature he'd jumped onto when the rumble threw him aside. At that moment, the guard tower that contained Xanos and several other men with bows collapsed, as right beside it emerged another giant worm creature that looked like the other one's mother! No undead rode this one, but they would not be the problem. This new creature could have swallowed the tower itself.
Zero withdrew his blade from the dead monster and looked around helplessly. While quite a few were still flying in the air, a large portion of the Azure Blade had fallen or was under heavy attack. He himself had about fifty undead warriors with feeble weapons surronding him. Valorious was wrestling with the other armored creature not far away, and Zero saw it as his best chance. With a war cry, Zero charged forward and attempted to cut through the enemy and get to his dragon. After a minute of running and slashing, he'd killed about 8 enemies but suffered a nasty cut across his thigh. Valorious managed to knock the seemingly unharmed armored beast aside and plowed into the small troop of undead. Bodies flew left and right, and Zero, ignoring a new cut on his shoulder, leaped into the air and landed awkwardly on Valorious' back. The duo flew into the air. "Pull back!" he shouted to those who were still in the air. "We can't beat that creature! Evacuate as many as you can and get as far away as you can!" The other worm creature was bleeding from over a hundred arrow wounds, but was still moving fairly fast. The giant one hadn't even had it's skin pierced by the attacks launched against it. This would one battle the Azure Blade did not win. With one final look, Zero had Valorious turn and sweep over the front ranks of the undead assault force before heading for where the civilians were hiding.

"Get me out of this tortured hell" Thorn thought while the pain raced through his body. He thought he felt as if his body was climbing..
Johne which as Thorn climbed to the second story of a house. It looked as if Thorn was being summoned there. The necklaced glowed in Johne's hand as Thorn crashed through side of the house. A man and an elven women were sitting on a bed. Thorn snarled..
Johne leapped up behind Thorn and looped the necklace over his neck. Thorn quickly went back to his normal form. He stood up, looked at the couple. His eye glowed again, and he run off into the night.

* Days later after the battle...*
Zero walked the streets of the city openly, but wore a cape with a hood to conceal his face and sword.
After gathering as many men as he could, he and the survivors of the skirmish had pulled away, vowing to reform the great Azure Blade and retake the city from the control of the Undead. Any soldiers who had not gotten away were now dead, and many had been seperated. Many members were throughout the land, looking for new recruits and gathering information. He himself had volunteered to stay behind in the city, along with Rolin and a few others. They'd managed to save their dragons and they were now hidden in a stable that Xanos, who had survived the battle but lost his right arm, now owned. They have plenty of supplies, but their numbers are too few. And all the citizens of the city are now considered slaves to the Undead, and work only to have their labours taken from them.
Zero passed a pair of armed undead, which are best described as skeletons, who grabbed him. "Where are ye goin', scrub?" one said, the remaining skin of his face showing a hint of a grin. "Ya haven' paid yer tax te pass dis way." The other was reaching for the pouch on Zero s belt, and he quickly glanced around. No one else was in sight. With a quick movement he rolled in between the two skeletons and drew his sword. Not pausing for them to do anything, he swung around and smashed the one with the skin on his face's ribs, causing him to topple over and shatter. The other said some mysterious curse and drew his obsidian falchion, only to have his hand cut off by Zero's dancing blade of death. The soldier's skull was quickly slashed in half and the bones scattered on the flagstones that covered the streets. Zero hurried along before someone else showed up.

Thorn had traveled a good 100 miles away from the town. He gentle felt the necklace wit his left hand, thinking about what happened thoughs few days. He pushed the stone of the necklace into his chest, making it bleed a bit.. "d**nmit all.. what am I?" His head hurt from the constant pondering over the past couple of days. Thorn licked the blood from his hand and continued on traveling and thinking.. thinking about that couple he saw when he formed back to normal..
Thorn's ear's perked at the sound of marching. It was part of the undead legion that attacked the city. Thorn's bones went cold. He wasn't sure if he should fight and try to repent, or run and try to figure what is wrong with him.

Rolin awoke from his heavy slumber, coughing. He opened his eyes to a dark, damp room . . . A cellar of some house, that obviously had not been touched by the undead; It still held many things in it that they would have taken. Rolin stood up, stretched, and yawned. After rubbing his eyes, and stretching a bit more, he walked over to a staircase going down.
At first, they were wooden steps, just like the wooden floor in the wooden cellar that he had just been in, but it quickly turned more into a cave, where about ten dozen people were- Some sleeping, some quietly chatting, some reading books, and then the few wearing the uniforms of the Azure Blade were practicing their swordsmanship and bowskills using bound hay as practicing swords and some packed dirt wet down a tad bit as targets for their arrows.
This cave had been quickly dug out, and probably wasn't very stable. Practically any large furniture to be found was on its side with blocks of wood on top acting as a support beam.
As Rolin walked through the entranceway, he looked around himself and saw swords stuck into the ground . . . There were many, beyond counting. Each of them had a sapphire crest in the hilt; The symbol of the Azure Blade. Rolin kneeled down, and looked at one of the swords. Inscribed upon the leather-covered handle was the name Darious Farsun. Rolin looked around, and read the handles of various other blades.
Rolin stood up slowly, with a blank look in his eyes. "Have I really failed all of these people . . . This many soldiers, alone, in the Azure Blade . . . Not even counting the other groups, or the townspeople . . . "
Rolin's eyes filled with tears, and he closed them, letting the shining drops fall down his face. He fell straight back, into a wall, and just stared into nothingness . . . His eyes were open, but all that he saw was darkness. People were bustling about, nonetheless the only sound that he could hear was the screams of the dead.
He cried. For the first time that he could ever remember since the death of his first friend . . . He cried. The shadows loomed over him, took Rolin, and he didn't struggle . . . No, he accepted them.

Zero sat on a chair inside the only pub open to travellers, a small building on the outskirts of town called Thrakon's Fist. Undead were frequents in this place, but humans and other species were also a plentiful. He sat in his quiet corner, slowly enjoying a cold plae ale. The other bars in the inner sanctums of the city had been better establishments, but they were only for citizens now, which meant Undead only. Zero hated being in bars like this with only his sword at his side, so a small hand-held crossbow rested on his lapin Condition One: Loaded and ready. All he had to do was release the lock and fire. He could do that fairly quickly, and the weapon fired two bolts at a time, leaving a better garuntee of success. Sure enough, Dyos and Jysta, two undead best described as wraiths, walked in for there usual drink. If it it wasn't for the fact that he'd draw attention and be hunted down, Zero would of enjoyed shooting them both. No, that would be a stupid thing to do. However, Dyos sat down at his favorite table, but a cloaked person nursing a goblet of some beverage was already sitting there. Zero noticed the cloaked person wore a ring with a sapphire inbedded in it. He reconized it as the same type that he had in the hilt of his sword. He could also tell it was a woman. Could she be related to one of our own? He wondered. Heck, she may even BE a new member... Dyos stared at the cloaked woman, a dark leer on his face. "Well, well," he said as Jysta sat down beside him. "Look at this table that suddenly became empty." The woman, however, did not move. Zero looked around. No other Undead were in the bar. He had a feeling that this was about to get ugly. Dyos scowled. "Did you hear me, flesh-rack?" he snarled. "This is MY table! You looking for a death ticket?" In a flash, the woman was up and tipped the table for ward so it came down on Dyos. It landed with a thud! and Zero head him scream as his calves were shattered. Jysta jumped up and went for his sword, but Zero reacted quickly. With a skill honed by hours of practice, he whipped up his bow gun and fired. The two bolts flew and sank deep into Jysta's ribs, but maybe he should of aimed for the head... Luckily, the woman had taken that time to draw a hatchet and threw it right at Jysta's head. The small axe, amazingly, actually cut the head in two! Jysta fell without a sound, and the bar was now dead silent, apart from Dyos' shrieking. The woman retrived her weapon, stepping on Dyos' head, silencing him, in the process. Zero slipped his bow into his waistband and quickly ran out the door, the woman a step ahead of him. "Wait!" Zero shouted. The woman stopped for a moment to turn and face him. He caught a glimpse of bright brown hair underneath her hood. "Thank you," she said in a suprisingly sweet-sounding voice. Without another word she turned and was gone. Zero didn't want to stick around in case more undead showed up, so he decided to relay information to Rolin. He quickly ran back to the hideout, taking the back streets to be safe. *** Rolin stood over the swords of fallen comrades when Zero came in. Oddly enough, he was shedding tears of sorrow. Zero swallowed hard. "Rolin," he began. "I discovered that an undead baron by the name of Goldniche has a mansion in the hills north of here, less than a few hours by horse or dragon. He has a few small shanties on his property, but the defences are rather low. He is one of the four governors of this area, so if we kill him, the defences might be moved more into their territory and out of this area...I say we send a small strike team. You in?"

A few moments of silence passed . . . Rolin slowly turned up to Zhane, and said dully, "That's fine . . . Do you need me to come with you?"
Rolin paused, and looked around. "There's not many men here . . . But then again, if we're discovered, then we're dead anyway."

Zero pulled up a stump that had been slashed by several swords during practice. "I say we take a unit of six, including ourselves. Balance out the gear for stealth and light combat. Bring three dragons, ours being two of them, of course. We sneak in at night and use ropes with lassos to scale the walls. After that we sneak in and catch him in his library. To sneak out we set fire to a shack containing explosives. It will blow open the wall and we'll be able to slip out in the confusion. Now, who shall we take with us?" At that moment, the woman from before walked into the room. "By the way," he added. "Who is that?"

"It's all that we can really spare, without frightening the townspeople that are in refuge here, I guess . . . " Rolin looked up, and saw the woman walking through.
Almost zoning out while staring at her, he spoke directed at Zhane. "I really have no clue, Zero . . . " Rolin began. " . . . But she seems familiar for some reason; And she has a sapphire ring ring shaped like a sword, just like our crests . . . " Rolin trailed off.
