I discovered that in Suikoden II, when you have to travel to Muse to get the amulet for Pilika, you can simpily walk up to the Muse/Matilda border, and push the gate open, then walk to the world map!
However, people might complain that this is useless, since the enemies are much too strong for where you are in the story. But, if you can make it to border village, you may recruit Humphery and Futch. To gain levels fast, arrange your party like this:
Front Row : Humphery/Futch/anyone Back Row : Hero/Jowy/anyone
So mine would be :
Front Row : Humphery/Futch/Shiro Back Row : Skeiz/Jowy/Kinnison
Pick fights with the PinkBirds in the world map. Since they cant attack the back row, and they deal 1-3 damage to Humphery, Skeiz will be safe. Keep defending until everyone but Humphery and Skiez are KO'd, and kill the monstes. Now watch as your heros level goes from about 10 to around 25+ Repeat until level is at least 30, then change the formation to this :
Front Row : Humphery/Futch/Skeiz Back Row : Jowy/Kinnison/Shiro
Now Jowy will gain levels, see? When Jowys level is 30+, use his Unite with Skeiz to kill the PinkBirds quickly and rake up levels for your other characters.
Also, dont forget to trek over to Rockaxe to buy some armour for your new powerhouses.
Of course, there are countless glitches here. For example, if you start the Humphery/Futch sidequest, Skiez uses the Bright Sheild rune to clear the mist, even although he doesnt have it yet...if you find any more things that shouldnt happen, post them!

That's a very well known secret, on my 3rd time playing it I did it. It helped in a few battles, but they were much more fun/annoying when I got stuck and frustrated. I like a challenge and this took away some challenge until later in the game. But it's still pretty useful.

Throughout the 7 times I played through Suikoden II I never once used such a cheap tactic!
