This is a rumor... but somewhat interesting. I read (I don't always believe what I read... like I don't believe this) that Square Enix plans to release a FFVII remake on the PS2. Which, has all the things we never got in the Japanese version... revival of Aeris anyone?
-This is because Square didn't have all the time they needed to translate the entire game. Remember the sick guy in the slums? My friend who moved into Japan for some time told me about the Japanese version. Anywho, supposedly Square didn't FINISH translating FFVII for American sale. Causing a loss of the rivival of Aeris side quest... and tons of other stuff we missed.
And yes.. I DID say REMAKE!
The US did not miss anything. The only differences between the US and Original Japanese versions were the original US was a bit easier and had a few other very small differences (I believe it was merely the names of a few items being changed). The rumor about Square not having enough time to translate the game/you were supposed to be able to revive Aeris is complete crap. It was started by some guy claiming to work for Squaresoft as a translator who later admitted that he was definitely not.

But it's still possible that they might make a remake, right?
The odds of that are extremely low. I don't think square realizes what they're doing to the Final Fantasy VII name. It would have been a good plan to create a remake and then a sequel either on PS2 or a film. But they're making the film which probably won't even be on DVD and then making a prequel for the fricking cell-phone.
It's quite obvious that they no longer care about keeping the name of Final Fantasy VII on the high place it's in, but rather just satisfying their commitments to their cell phone affiliate and their new PSP system.
Square can rot for all I care.
