I think the music in FFVIII's great, although I think the same of other FF soundtracks. They're all nice to listen to. I'd give it my favourite rating out of ten, 8.

There were a lot of themes that really didn't fit the theme of the scene, if ya know what I mean.
They were okay, nuthin' more to say, it's just that way, when ya play it.

Well duh, the great tracks are great. It had great music, I just don't feel that a lot of it was used well.

I didn't really like FFVII's music. I don't remember any good tracks except for One Winged Angel, Seto's Theme, Battle Theme and... that's about it. FFX's was good, but not close to be as good as 8/9. I liked Summoned Beast Battle, Yevon Battle, Suteki Da Ne and some more. FF8's and FF9's music was absolutely fantastic. I think FF8 is the only soundtrack in the world that I liked each and every track. But FF9's music was so memorable and so... incredible. I don't know which is better.

FFIX had some good tracks and some bad ones but I feel that they were used well as opposed to FFVIII's great tracks being used poorly for the most part.
Even something bad when used correctly can seem good.

I forgot FF8's The Castle track and Legendary Beast track. Legendary Beast is my all time favorite FF track.

I prefer the theme to Evil Forest. Basic, but enjoyable.

Oh shizz, time to whip out my complete OST (spare 2 different mixes of Kuja's theme that were in the game that noone bothered to record because they were only used for 15 seconds . . . Blargghh!!) .
Edit - Here we gooo!
There's the Assault on Cleyra, another basic piece which I find amusing. Mystery Sword was well done, tho' it seemed to make Beatrix a bit creepier than one would learn later on. Then there's my all time favorite music from a video game, Living by the Blade. Loss of me was a good for setting the tragic/sad/gloomy mood, which I found to be great.
Or if you prefer upbeat tunes, theres Jesters of the Moon for ya. Nice playful piece while also being a bit on the mysterious side.
Vamo alla Flamenco was simply a masterpiece, I cannot think of a better way to put it. The Skirmish of the Silver Dragons was also a great example of great music.
FFIX simply had great music. Although personally, I didn't care for the music you heard more than anything else, the main battle music and Crossing the Knoll, but hey, that's just me. Most people enjoyed those pieces.
