I normally keep names the same. I do remember I named Cloud "F*ck off" once. This made it so when he burst into the train in his fancy way, they all tell him to f*ck off.
Zidane - [Zi]t [Day] Pa[in] "Zidayne" Quistis - [Qu]iz Kr[iss] [T]h[is] "Quisstis" - It's not too hard to guess that one. "Kiss dis" might have been how they intended it. Locke - [Lock] [Key] "Lockkey" - Locks and keys are things you might find "Treasure Hunters" related with. So that was probably intended to be how it's pronounced Barret - BAH RET. That one is simple enough.

Locke's name also might hav something to do with the God Locke, du to the fact that Locke was the god of tricks, and we all know them theives are tricky little bastards

Actually Patryn, the diety's name is spelled "Loki". There is a variation of the name thats spelled "Loke" but it doesn't have a c. Either the translators or what have you didn't know any better, or it has nothing to do with the god. I'm opting for that ladder.
