I've never played an online RPG. Can you recommend really good ones (only PC), Kupo? I thought about it and it looked like great fun. My favourite genre, and with real people.

Don't get any yet, none of the ones out are amazing.
Also I would recommend you getting a job before thinking about getting one.

Get a job, then, when it comes out, get World of Warcraft. If it has Trolls as playable characters, it will automatically be the most r0xx0r thing in the world. If it does not, I shall shun it.

What the?...
I wanted to create a thread with the same question...
But not only those on sell in stores, also those on the internet found as download for free...(wanted to try Ragnarok, but the file is 570 MB and I'm only allowed to 1000 each month,to know that my sister is also using them). Anyway...what a coincidence...

Why getting a job? What's that got to do with it?

They all have a monthly fee. I recommend FFXI or World of Warcraft when they are releasesed. I'm going for WoW myself

You need a job to pay for all the subscription costs, etc; that's the reason why I never play online RPGs: when I buy a game, I want to pay for the game, full stop. I don't see why I should keep paying to play that game (yes, I know it's for paying server costs, but still theoretically..).

I don't see why I should keep paying to play that game (yes, I know it's for paying server costs, but still theoretically..). Another reason is that with games such as Asherons Call 1 and 2, there are updates every month, with a live team of moderaters and another team changing the game all the team. The monthly subscription fees would go towards paying this constantly working team; if there was no monthly fee, the company would only be losing money. But anyway - some good MMO's are Asherons Call 2, Asherons Call 1 (though it is an old game now), Phantasy Star Online (for the Gamecube ) and Ragnarok Online.

I have fun with Dark Age of Camelot. Shadowbane is also a good choice if you like PVP. Nexon's Dark Ages is a good choice if you want to try more the role playing aspect. Asheron's Call 2 is good if you like awesome graphics and at least they are constantly improving it. So far the best out there, imo is Dark Age of Camelot. But if you wanted to play on your PS2, Everquest Online Adventures! People who say there aren't any good ones out haven't actually paid to play them. It does suck they cost money but there are good online rpgs out there. Hell, even UO is good if you never played it before (it was better back in the day). The original Asheron's Call is also a awesome game.

DAoC wasn't very good :/ The starwars one looks best really. WWC just seems like DAoC.

Level...15 I think. I got SOOOoooo bored with it. (Yes I realise I didn't do the online fighting other guys bit) The killing monsters was very...very...very dull... I used to go kill some skeletons/ghosts and things on a beach in midgard. Then I went to the REALLY nasty place with the redish/purplish sky in midgard at level 9. (I snuck past the big guarding ogre thing ) Then I went to a dungeon, then I leveled up some more. Then it started costing money and I just wasn't into it enough. My bro didn't think much of it either so he stopped playing.

Well to really enjoy a online rpg, you have to put up with the boring leveling.

Levelling shouldn't be boring to have a successful MMORPG, unfortunately no developer has hit the nail on the head yet. DAoC was simply spend hours and hours just to get from level 1 to 5. The thing is they NEED to have quick low leveling so you get some interesting skills. You'd use your one viable skill 500 times a level. Leveling is tedious and boring and the same with every monster. This turn based combat they use is just rubbish. It doesn't suit the style. However World of Warcraft is the one I'm looking at right now. It's made by Blizzard. I am a serious Blizzard junky. I've played Diablo II solidly since it came out. Starcraft is amazing. Warcrafts 2 and 3 were superb. I don't know any other MMORPG as cartoony and light hearted as this (I assume there are some however) yet can be a serious contender to Everquest. It promises easy and quick leveling for the casual gamer. This is the key factor here. Casual gamers soon become serious gamers once they've got into the game. MMORPGs tend to only be fun once you've got to a satisfactory level. WoW will get you there without the tedium. If I know Blizzard this one will be a scorcher. (Sod Trolls, I want Ogres ). I hate to say it but FFXI looks nuts. I'm a big FF fan, but it doesn't have anything that appeals to me. And it was unpopular in Japan, and those guys love FFs. One question to you guys. Why is Morrowind so much more fun than any of the online RPGs? It's effectively a single player version of one, yet it's thoroughly enjoyable.
