I am looking for a good role-playing mmo. Everquest Online Adventures is too linear, Runescape doesn't give good mmo ability, ragnarok online seems too... Asian to feel really D&D style adventure. I'm looking for something where I can be whatever "class" I want to be and change, example: Games like Rolemaster where the class determines the ability one has to level up a skill (a warrior has an extremely difficult time learning magic spells, but still can). I want freedom... And a click-and-move doesn't seem to suit me...
Any help is advised, if you play ANY mmo game PLEASE discribe it, even if described by someone else or stated above.
ALL input is valued, thank you.

Star Wars Galaxies
VERY Robust "class" system. You can be whatever you want, literally. ALL Professions are used, Armorsmith, Musician, Entertainer, Tailor, etc., as well as Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, Swordsman, Rifleman, etc.
Very fun social aspect. As of right now, AFK people are polluting cantinas (a social hangout), however with an upcomming publish, this will be stopped by making people not have a reason to AFK macro.
Battle is fun, but a bit unbalanced. An entire publish dedicated to combat and equalizing it is comming in the future.
A TON of customization options when it comes to character creation, considering mostly everything is on a non hinged slider, meaning you slide freely, with no preset slider hangs.
Overall a very fun game thats getting better.
Also, SPACE COMBAT IS COMMING! Just like a flight sim for an MMO, Jump to Lightspeed is on the way in November.

I wouldn't recommend SWG to anyone. The game is just rubbish. First of all.. People use mainly Teräs Käsi/Fencer/Rifleman as a template for PvP. If not Rifleman then Swordsman and that's it. With that template there isn't anyone you could loose to except a nother Teräs Käsi/Fencer/Rifleman or Swordsman. Then there are the different planets.. The only two planets I used to grind was Tatooine and Dantooine. All the other planets where just rubbish. After you adventure around the world fighting different kinds of NPC's you will notice that 100% of the humanoid NPC's are Teräs Käsi Artists. Yes, even Tusken raiders that used to be Fencers and used Gaderiffi batons in melee are TK's now and will whack you with their fists. Oh, did I tell you about the many cities in Star Wars Galaxies? Oh yes, there are a lot of them..! But only 3 of them are used. Bestine, Anchorhead and Coronet. Gah...! I'll stop now since the game sucks so much and these thoughts are bringing back painful memories of when I played this rubbish.

hmm... I was looking for more of a classic D&D-inspired mmo. Although SWG has been considered I believe it is not suitable to my thirst for RPG pleasure. I was looking into the following:
EverQuest EverQuest II Meridian 59 ... AGH! I can't remember the name... i'll edit when I remember...
::EDIT:: The game I couldn't remember is Dark Age of Camelot!

Well you can't get much more RP than walking into a cantina and (pre-holos) hanging out with the local musicians or on that rare chance the galaxy wide famous musician walks into your little cantina.
And Neon, there are a lot more cities used than just those three. Theed, Moenia, Coronet, Anchorhead, Bestine, Mos Eisley, and not to mention the countless PVP cities that are used as fortresses.
Yes, in the beginning this game was probably not the best, but it just keeps getting better and better as time goes on.

I was switching servers once for fun and I noticed that everything was more expensive there than in the server I hanged out and not to mention that there are RP servers, free for all servers and PVP servers.

T4C - You really can't find free servers anymore though, and it was discontinued by the company (they no longer deal in games, only telecommunications or some other crap) so no more updates unless they're user-end.

Holy thread revival, batman!
You can look for a free T4C server. You can look for a free RO server. The others are either pay or I don't know.
