Ikaruga
Genre: Space Shooter
Platforms: Dreamcast, Gamecube and Arcade
Players 1 - 2
Now, I'm a long fan of Space Shooters. I have many Gradius roms and R Type roms sitting on my Pc. Basically, it's one of my favourite genres. When I saw that Ikaruga, A Space Shooter; was out for the Gamecube, I had no second thoughts of picking it up.
In the past years, Space Shooters have succeeded in throwing tremendous amounts of crap at us. They've been responsible for rehashed ripoffs.
Not this one, this is original and fun at the same time, pretty rare in games these days. Basically, you control a small ship, and which you can change polarity between white and black. When you are White, white weapons won't hurt you and vice versa with black. However, also when you are White, black enemys take quicker to kill, but white longer; Vice Versa too.
That simple techinque above adds so much Strategy to the gameplay involved, it requires actions and quick thinking. It gives the gave originality and style too.
Did I mention, that this game is hard? Because it is... Ikaruga, essentially takes 30 minutes to complete, but with it's extreme difficulty level, it'll take you a hellova lot longer than that. If it does get hard, there is a two player Co-Op though, which, in my opinion is a nice touch. There are also many different modes to play in too, Vertical, Horizontal, Slow, Fast, Hard, Easy, Normal. But whatever mode; it's still a d**n hard game.
Graphiclly, this game loses no points, it does what it's supposed to do, beautifally and it has so much architecture involved it's beautiful in it's design. Every enemy has a unique design and appearance.
Ikaruga also features some top class sounds in itself too, with brilliant background music and fantastic voice sounds, it's top class all the way.

Conclusion:
Never rent this game, you won't complete it, it takes time and effort to complete this game, and even if you don't like Space Shooters, you have to appreciate the beauty and design of this game.
99% of gamers buy this game to realise they suck at gaming.
