Welcome to Xero's review of...
I'll review the game based on Gameplay, Graphics, Sound, and Storyline
F-ZERO GX is the third F-ZERO game on an Nintendo console. The game takes the series to a whole new level with realistic graphics, a Customize mode which uses elements from the unreleased F-ZERO X Expansion for the N64 Disk Drive (which was only available in Japan), and a storyline that follows the trials and tribulations of Captain Falcon, the champion of the previous F-ZERO Grand Prix.
Captain Falcon races for top spot in Mute City
Gameplay - 7/10
Veterans of F-ZERO X can get right into the gameplay when they start playing, but for beginners, even on Novice mode, the game's pretty tough from the get-go because of the toughest courses ever seen in F-ZERO history. However, the difficulty of the game isn't too much to worry about. Plus, the ability to create your own vehicles is a relief to those who were upset that F-ZERO X Expansion didn't make it to the US. Getting tickets in Grand Prix and Story mode help you develop your racing machine, and you can get even more parts for your machine at the F-ZERO Shop in GX or you can win them in AX. And the connectivity between the arcade and Gamecube game is GREAT! It uses your Memory Card and an F-ZERO Liscense Card (similar to the Owner's Card in Derby Owner's Club World Edition) to keep track of your records.
Graphics - 10/10
Best. Graphics. Ever. The realism of this game is mind boggling. Nothing seems realer than a wolfman (Leon) driving a super fast vehicle through near photorealistic courses high above a city at night...it makes you angry because of all the nearly-whizzed-by-you eye candy is going by you so fast, you've got no time to look at it all.
I don't think Pico likes worms after what happened in Sand Ocean...
Sound - 10/10
The songs in this game are awesome for rock songs. The course themes are very good to listen to while you're racing, and the Pilot themes are great too, especially Captain Falcon's. And the sound effects are just as good. I just love the sound your vehicle makes when you boost to victory!
Storyline - 8/10
A good storyline that makes the F-ZERO world come to life is what really took the cake in this game, but it's pretty average...rival racer becomes evil dude, good guy tries to stop him in grand prix...you know the deal. I'm not giving away the complete storyline...because I havn't played that far yet.
OVERALL SCORE: 8 & 3/4
The game is awesome, and it walks away with an above average score. Although it's storyline isn't Zelda-material, who cares? We just love to race at unreal speeds in vehicles that are just as unreal. A definite must-buy game for the extreme F-ZERO fan and racer fans alike, but for those of you who just like to play video games, you may want to get a different game to play.
Our review has come speeding across the finish line. All right! 1st Place!
