There's also something called "Life Imprisonment". That's what I was gonna say. But shouldn't they be better off dead than being so lonely? They should.

Course we should keep the death penalty. Why should taxes be higher so that we can pay to keep people in prison. Why would we lose out just to keep people who don't deserve to live alive. Kill them all, it's easier.

They should do what they did in Xenosaga, have personality treatments- make them forget who they are and redesign their persona as seen fit for society. That way nobody dies, and you can use the criminal for safe methods of labor. Unethical? YEP. Totally SWEET? ABSOLUTELY!!! ;D ;D ..Glad to see I'm not the only one who liked what they did in XS. Good old Inq, as blunt as can be, but you strike a good point. The money spend on the people in prison could go to places that really need the money.. Here in Texas, the money spent on people in prison isn't that high, mainly because we haven't let a single person have life impisonment and not death out of "mercy" for about..45 years. Nope, George W. Bush never let a single one go when he was governer, and no one else has either. That's Texas..we put the "ex" in execution..

No death penalty in my country. But I voted for No.
What's good about when murderer do murder someone, he will be just 10-30 years in jail. It's not right for letting someone go to free. And Death penalty is for that, he won't do any crimes again...

If only there was some empty continent (Like Australia was) for us to leave convicts. Then they can't annoy us anymore.

There is another issue with the death penalty: wrongly accused people.
The governor of a state here in America did away with the death penalty after a study found several people on death row were innocents.
With the death penalty, it would be one thing if it was '100% accurate,' but the reality is people on death row are often wrongly accused and/or given a harsher sentence because of a bad defense lawyer.
Here's an interesting fact- The reason many people are on death row is that they cannot afford a decent lawyer, so they get stuck with a lousy state one.
However, executions in the past were often used in social control and scapegoating. This includes the Socco and Vanzetti trial in the early 20th century.
They were two Italian anarchists accused of killing their boss on questionable 'evidence.' Of course, knowing the Red Scare back then, they were fried in the old electric chair.
Some opponents of the death penalty point the finger at people and say African and other minority groups are singled out as a similar scapegoating issue.

The purpose of the death penalty is to defer anyone who may be considering committing a crime of that calibur from following through. Dying tends to strike fear into people.
I also agree with the stance that keeping those scumbags in our prisons increases taxes. I won't want to pay for a murderer to get three meals every day, and have an easier life. (Yeah, I don't pay taxes yet... In fact, I won't for a few years, hehe.)
While I agree with the death penalty and its use, I also believe that in many cases the only real disadvantage is that a person gets off to easily. When you think about it, if you die, you don't spend your remaining decades on earth imprisoned and suffering, you just die.
Course, what happens after the criminal dies... that is another story, and no one quite knows the answer...

Plain and simple some people just deserve to die. Sure killing someone to show that murder is wrong, but It's a d**n effective punishment. Torture is good too.

I say have the accused murderer be executed the same way he murdered. He cut out their eyes, shoved a fork in their ear and cut their arms off and beat them to death with it, do it to him!
Nah...I say we just put all the convicts on death row in one big arena, give them weapons, fill them full of liquor and have them kill each other off, and say the winner gets to go free, and when the winner is declared, shoot him in the head. Put it on Pay Per View. Ratings would go THROUGH THE ROOF!
Can you believe that in California using the electric chair is considered, "Cruel and Unusual Punnishment?" And before the lethal injection they sanatize the needle? What's the flippin' point? "We're gonna kill you, but we're trying to reduce the risk of infection." "Well, that seems...GAHHH!!! *dead*"
