I know there's a lot of disscussion going on about this right now, and I'm just wondering what everyone here thinks about it? Personally I don't smoke it, never have, never will, but I do think that as long as it's going to be out there anyway, the governament might as well take a hold of it, sell it, and tax the hell out of it. It would definitely get the government more money, they might even lower other taxes because of it, and as long as the government is selling it, the underground drug market would probably take a big blow too. What's your opinion?

I know that, and I know the effect the stuff has on people. It really sickens me. So many people in my hometown smoke it that I assume in a few years the population is going to be vastly diminished. But think about it, it's gonna be out there anyway, so why not take advantage of it?

Because if they can sneak it now, when it's illegal, whose to say they can't sneak MORE of it then, when it's legal?

Ahem, Paters wrong drug...we live in the meth capital of the world. It wouldn't bother me if it was legalized though (marajuana), it might even get people to stop, because it wouldn't be 'cool' anymore.

Marajuana is less harmful than standardized tobacco cigarettes, so I say 'go for it.' However, I'd object to the legalization of cocaine or anything else with permanent, lasting effects.. as that would overall hurt the community. And not all drugs are uncool, my friends.. caffiene, for instance, is the most widely used and abused drug in the USA, and I love it.
Oh, and boobs are cool. ;D

People should be able to do whatever they like, providing that it doesn't affect anyone else. If people want to bugger themselves up, go ahead, just don't bugger anyone else up. Just don't go crying to anyone when they start to "kick in". So yes, but only in their own homes. Smoking anything in public I don't like at all.
I wouldn't actually go near anything, legal or illegal, hence my objection to "use of materials" in public. If I want to feel great, I'll work for it.

What I meant MPaul is that if it were to be legalised and the government sold it why would anyone buy it off the black market? Far riskier. I do agree with you though CC all the man made stuff like cocaine is just a big no-no and I doubt that would ever be legal. But caffeine and boobs are good drugs. And Inquis, think about it. Would it really be that bad? It's not like anyone is going to toke up in public anyway, so you may never even see them doing it. Plus the way I've heard them talking about it most places you'd have to be sixteen to buy them anyway(You'd think the age would be higher huh?). If I had my way all the druggies (not caffeine and boob druggies) would be shipped to a remote desert island with all the world's drugs and nature would take it's course, but hey that's not gonna happen so why not make a good thing out of a bad thing?

Marajuana is less harmful than standardized tobacco cigarettes, so I say 'go for it.' I say, 'cigarettes should be illegal too'. Thanks to the fact that the government is owned by the highest bidder, though, that seems unlikely - but don't make the problem worse by legalizing MORE harmful substances. Who knows what those bastards in the tobacco industry would do to Marijuana to make it more addictive... the idea of legalizing Marijuana so we can regulate it is nice and all, but you have to realize that in reality that is a pipe dream. If the U.S. Senate really believed in regulation of controlled substances, cigarettes would not kill millions of people each year with their blessing. All legalizing it would do is provide easier access to more addictive weed with less risk involved - and that is NOT a good thing.

Actually the government is run by the people and for the people, not to some high bidder. *true Patriot*

It IS that BAD. I would not like to see any of my friends going near that filth because it becomes legal.
Paul C
'cigarettes should be illegal too' YES! CIGARETTES SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. Sickening stuff. I hope that it becomes a law. For Marajuana it should be imprisonment, for Cigarettes it should be a BIG fine.
You should never even consider letting it be legal.

Personally, I agree that such drugs, including alcohol and cigarettes shouldn't be used. However, the reasoning behind legalizing such drugs is that it may cause A) an end to violent crime in illegal drug dealing, B) an overall reduction of drug use, and C) easier to control.
Arguments are usually based upon the failed Prohibition attempt of the 1920s. Violent crime and illegal alcohol sales sky-rocketed, and consumption of alcohol went up. As such, some believe that legalizing marijuana, cocaine, and other such drugs, coupled with a strong drug education, may lead to an improvement.
