Hardly none where I live, but where I used to live a few years ago, each race sat at their own tables at lunch, did not talk to each other, and there were many race riots.

I live in Iowa..... racism never started here. I go to school with a Korean, an El Savadoren, a Mexican, and a Midget. And I consider myself lucky to have them as friends. Hell, they almost run the class. People say Iowa is being over run by mexicans and amish people, but its not, there just adding there cultures and food. And I like mexican food, its good . Now if you wish to argue with me, take it up with my Korean friend, he's a state champ in wrestling, or maybe the Midget..... he'll woop yo ass. Heh heh, hes a little getto midget..... heh heh

I agree with that... Racism is stupidity... But theres hardly any of that where i live down In New York,Hell, I'm Asian but you'd almost never see somebody saying " I'm gonna beat your ass because your Asian" now if this was the 40's and 50's ::shivers::... To summarize all of that... Racism sucks...

The whole racism argument is ridiculous. Everyone knows it is wrong to hate someone because of where they come from or the colour of their skin. I think you'd all agree that racism is a hatred of the stereotypes of races. Everyone is going on for pages and pages about it being ignorant and wrong, but I've not seen a balanced post. I do not agree with racism, but I do not agree with the state of society now that if you even say a bad word about a coloured person you're called a racist. Individual people of ethnic miniorities can be thingyheads too, just like everyone else. At my old job I worked with Asians. Most of the staff were. I really didn't like any of them, yet I did like the few white people. This wasn't because they were Asian, but because they were the stereotypical asian. I couldn't understand what they were saying because of all these slang words they threw out (I couldn't understand why they kept calling things fat ). My point is, I guess, that just because something is a stereotype doesn't mean that it's wrong. Surely, if something is a stereotype it must have some foundation. England has a history of being xenophobic, as has other parts of Europe. Take the crusades for example. It was the entire of the white world at war against the "demon" middle-easterns. During Henry VIII's reign he encouraged hatred of foreign nations because he wanted to remove the pope as head of the church in England. England's constant wars with France through out the middle ages and beyond until the modern era have also contributed to this. England was one of the most involved in the slavery of black people and one of the last to pass an anti slavery law. Today, with all the stories about asylem seekers and particularly illegal immigrants, sponging off tax-payer's money. It is no wonder there is racism in this country. Anti-Racism has become such an issue employers try to fulfill quotas of ethnic minorities to save face. In the past an unqualified white person may have been chosen over a qualified black person because of racism. Today it is the other way round, just so it cannot be said that they're racist. Positive discrimination.

I agree with Maxy about this topic; nobody has really given a balanced arguement(besides Maxy). Now let me shed my point of view.
The world today is still "racist," just a bit backwards. People will choose a colored person over a white person because they don't want to be anti-semitic. If you ask me, wouldn't it be more productive to choose the person most qualified for the job, not just by the color of their skin?
I live on the West Coast of the US, (California) and I always thought my area was race-friendly. Once I got into High School, though, I found it completely wrong. At least once a week I am called Kike or made fun of in another way,(Such as "Hey Jew, where's you're Yamaca?") and to tell you the truth, I am sick of it. We actually have a group of skinheads in my school that purposely will walk behind me and make jokes. Just today three walked behind me and had a very interesting conversation.
Guy 1: Wouldn't it be funny to walk up to one of them and offer them pork? Guy 2: Yeah, all the things they can't eat. Guy 3: Those idiots are stupid for not eating ham, pork, and other stuff.
You know, it's sad, but these people seriously think they are better then everyone else. The thing is, at my school, if I punched one of them, I would be expelled. These skinheads don't actually have the guts to do anything to me, because they know I would go off on them.
So simply put; Racism isn't something you can just get rid of, there are ways for it to come back anytime.

Well there's the classic example I see so many times on TV and in life, everywhere. Black people are allowed to make jokes about colour, make fun of white people, whatever. As soon as a white person does the same about black people they're a racist.
OK, I know that black people have been persecuted for many many years, but surely equality is the answer, and not reprisal?

OK, I know that black people have been persecuted for many many years, but surely equality is the answer, and not reprisal? True that. This is an issue at my high school. There are some black people at my school, and I say this truthfully, who when someone (Who 99.9% of the time happens to be White) makes any sort of reference, humorous or serious, concerning race or race issues both past and present they will act as though they have been emotionally scarred, whine and cry until that person is punished. It's absolute ludicrous. And Maxy, I couldn't agree with you more.

Racism is down right terrible... I don't know why others have to hate... and one thing I've thought about is this:
Why is a different ethicity called a "race"? We're all humans...not something else. Why cant it be called a "species" within a single race? ...'am i making any sense? >_>

I can tell I DO hate some Romanians in Finland. Well, few of my buddies are racists, because they have beaten by Romanian guys, and those Romanians didn't have any judge. No payment, no jail. That's why I do hate Romanians. Also, they think they can do anything in our country. I'm tired of playing some sorta happy guy.
But I don't hate any Africans, Chineses.

If we changed the word to species instead of different races, we would have Specism.
