Oi. People, I'm showing you a preview of the site's layout. I've asked for constructive criticism because you've been long-time members of the community. Please don't make me regret doing that. I'm a little annoyed by all these suggestions that because you personally don't care for the new layout we're somehow unfit to run the site. Please keep in mind that if we had not stepped in, the site would be entirely ceasing to exist in a few days. Quite apart from that, it's just plain not fair to us to make judgments on the job we're doing with the site before it's even opened or our new content added. People are getting awful heated up over a name change and a preliminary layout, and are acting rather rudely to us considering the amount of time we're putting in on this thing. Nor is it helpful to complain simply because the site is changing. The site's name is different, yes; we hope to become bigger and better with the substantial flexibililty our host has given us for making this decision, and a change of name seems appropriate enough anyway considering the re-design of the site. It's not fair to us, again, to suggest the fact that we gave you this news "suddenly" indicates we've "lost touch with the little people" or "sold out" or "abandoned the fans" or whatever the heck it is you're implying. These events took place quickly and I have been very very very busy lately. A name means little in any case; if you prefer sighing with nostalgia about a site that has been dead for months over a renovated, expanded, consistently updated version, that's your problem and not anyone else's. The old RPG Palace's layout was attractive enough for a fan site, but it did not look especially professional or efficient. Nuno Lac's layout (which I emailed him about immediately after recieving the .jpg) wasn't up to our standards either, although the graphics he made for it were nice enough. No offense is intended, but we are looking for a more professional feel and I think the new layout is a step in the right direction. However this is a preview and we are open to CONSTRUCTIVE comments. We're asking for your input because we respect your opinions; please, make an effort to respect what we're trying to do as well.

My comments where constructive where they not? At least as constructive as I could. The palace was created for the fans by the fans and now its becomming commercial I'd rather see the Palace die than for it to become commerical.
I think Im long overdue for retirement, Im not leaving the town because of this I am leaving because I've grown bored and the town will evidnetly die, or at least it will never be the friendly place that it used to be. I may return, who knows and I will be keeping an eye on things. Goodbye.

If anything, the site is becoming LESS commercialized. We need fewer pop-ups than our old host required and no banner advertisements whatsoever, and there is no "store" anymore either. We are becoming more professional but I can't see as that's truly a bad thing...

paul how can you call the new layout a step in the right direction. an unfinished product was not worth seeing. why should the site become commercial it always has and hopefully will cover a niche topic namely rm2k3 an illigeal program a "commercial"site would never be accepted and I'm suprised we were allowed .com hosting. I'd like to know the reason nuno's layout "was not up to scratch". I'm sure you put a lot of effort in and for that I commend you but effort doesn't always equal result. I'd say you got plenty of constructive critisim if you actually read the posts the site is just to plain and the banner ametuerish the links bar is not very appealing and its not up to the same high standards of the original. however I am sure PaulM will be a good admin he regularly updated news before I have no doubt he can continue. the best analgy I can think of is the town has changed from a small shop to a faceless corparation. I'm glad wecan discuss this in an adult fashion I'm sure our comments much infuriate you

Here's my two cents worth, I do't mind the text links but the category text is just horrible, I suggest you change it. I won't mention any broken links or other linking problems because the sites not ready. Well that's my 2 cents worth. Enjoy ;D Oh and BTW that pic of the isn't that great I suggest you change it. A chinese man?! Good enough. I guess... -_0

paul how can you call the new layout a step in the right direction. How can I? Quite easily, actually, through forming sounds using my tongue and vocal cords to produce identifiable words. an unfinished product was not worth seeing. The point of putting up the front page was to let people take a look beforehand and give opinions, which I am regretting. This little excercise has convinced me quite clearly that it's not a great idea to ask forumites their opinions on anything. From now on, it'll be just us. God forbid that we should ask anyone to understand that we haven't completed the graphics for the sidebar yet. why should the site become commercial it always has and hopefully will cover a niche topic namely rm2k3 an illigeal program a "commercial"site would never be accepted and I'm suprised we were allowed .com hosting. As I just pointed out, if anything, the site is becoming less commercialized. Just because we have a domain doesn't mean we're selling out, just trying to make the site nicer. Regarding RM2K3, we will not be offering downloads of these programs and will be not acting in any illegal fashion. Hosting and reviewing games created by users isn't breaking any law. I'd like to know the reason nuno's layout "was not up to scratch". The color combinations were poor. The images were not integrated especially well. The site was too small for 1024x768 resolutions and used the highly unnattractive "gaps at the edges" method. We didn't care for the side banner much either. With some work it could be a very good design, but we prefer to use an original. There's little point in discussing it at this point anyway. I'm sure you put a lot of effort in and for that I commend you but effort doesn't always equal result. I'd say you got plenty of constructive critisim if you actually read the posts I recieved an idiotic outpouring of hate on the site in general over what you have identified later in this post as a handful of minor details, easily correctable. Perhaps your criticisms could have been "constructive" if they were presented as minor suggestions to improve the site's appearance (as they are) instead of massive ranting attacks on us and the layout in general. Instead, you've chosen to be obnoxious and rude. the site is just to plain and the banner ametuerish the links bar is not very appealing and its not up to the same high standards of the original. The banner could be improved, yes. I had no part in that. As I have stated repeatedly, the links bar is not completed and will be revised for the launch of the site. As for the "plain" feel I think it's most likely caused by the mono-color update post boxes and upper banner. Some change in that may be warranted. Your comments here were helpful despite the unneccessary spiteful little snipes about "not up to the standards" of the frame-laden original. however I am sure PaulM will be a good admin he regularly updated news before I have no doubt he can continue. the best analgy I can think of is the town has changed from a small shop to a faceless corparation. Why? Upon WHAT do you base this random and illogical conclusion? We have a domain and no longer spawn dozens of pop-ups on each visit so we're "faceless"? I'm glad wecan discuss this in an adult fashion I'm sure our comments much infuriate you My only comment on this is to let you know that trying to goad admins is a real good way to get banned. Unless of course, you meant something innocent and aren't quite aware of how the word "infuriate" in this sentence sounds.

Not to sound like a suck-up, but I agree with what PaulC said. The RPG Source should/will be better, seeing as I haven't gotten one pop-up or seen anything annoying.

Well, I can disagree with some of the members here. PaulC and M did nothing wrong. The made a site, and the layout was not up to your expectations (and mine). So what? It can be improved. And yes, alot of people here prefer RPG Palace, but that is Paul M's decision, and we just have to live with it. I don't really understand why you left Ricky, but that's also his choice.
Now onto my constructive criticism...
1. The quality of this pic is kinda low. I think you should have something animish there instead.
2 .The banner doesn't look very good, looks kinda bare. I know it's temporary though.
3. You should add images to the menu, so it would look more professional. So what if RPGamer don't.
4. There should be a special symbol to the site, like that dragon in RPGamer, and that shield thing in RPGFan, which will be on top of the menu. Also, the symbol should have the site's colors.
5. Light blue looks kind of unprofessional. You should make it black, or dark red, dark green. Dark, anyway. Or, total white. Those are the professional things, but definitely not light blue.
6. Remove the black and white outlines of the banner and menu, or change them to black, would look much better.
But really, I think the most important thing is number 5. Dark=best.

Nuno Lac's layout (which I emailed him about immediately after recieving the .jpg) wasn't up to our standards either, although the graphics he made for it were nice enough. First i didn't recive the email Maybe there was a problem with the emial service. Second...I told you that i could make changes, like the colours or anything you wanted. You just needed to ask me...nothing more ^_^ 3º - I really don't care for the name...cause well...it's only a name, right? and 4º - Well, if you guys think that this layout it's good, then who am i to say no Anyway i think that with some diferent colours and a little bit of work, you could make a good layout. For example look at this one that i'm making for my fan Site of Suikoden. I still haven't made the menus...but look only the colours theme or scheme or Skin...whatever you call it. linus.uac.pt/~nuno.viveiros/previewtHEBEGINNING21.jpgI'm still working in the logo and in the layout...
