Okay, so as some of you know I went through a horror writing phase in October last year. Well I'm trying to get myself out of this idea-block so I thought I'd post all of my early creations to re-interest you and to interest some of the newbies.
At Night I Dream
Authors Note - This was written late at night based on a dream I had had the previous night. I did actually hear the footsteps when I woke up - I still do not know what caused them.
At night, I dream.
Normal dreams mostly, sometimes its more. Disturbing. Strange. Horrifying.
Guess this is what I get for having an overactive imagination. Sometimes I even think its real. Sometimes it is. Who knows? This is the one dream I can remember clearly, so clearly I wonder if it was real or not. Of course, how could it have been real, if it was, we or rather you wouldn’t be here. Right… right?
One minute its all normal few of my friends are round at my house just hanging around, having fun. But wait, isn’t that my old house? Why are we there? Oh well, it is a dream after all. Then there’s this flash of light, I think I’ve gone blind, and then the light clears, its dark outside. I look around to see my friends are still ok, they are. They look as if nothing has happened. Why is that I wonder… I rush to the door and pull it open. I nearly faint from the sight that greets me. The sky is blood red, there is no sun. How is there light then? No matter. The buildings have all been destroyed, once towering tall sky-scrapers, now grey ruins. There is no one in sight. What is going on!? I run back to my friends. Now they seemed to have noticed something is wrong. I try to speak to them but nothing comes out, just silence. I try screaming, at last my voice comes back. What is going on? I ask them, they do not know. One of the older boys suggests we look around, reluctantly, we all agree. Two by two we leave the house. We look around the remains of my city. Nothing left, we search for days, finding not one living soul. The sky never darkens, it stays the one colour. There is no night. Is there even time? We come to the conclusion we are all that is left of humanity. There is another flash of light…
I wake up, scared.
Thump… thump… thump…
Footsteps!? But it’s the middle of the night, who would be up at this time. Aren't my mum, dad and sister away?
Thump… thump… thump…
Closer, they're getting closer! They are at my door!
The White Room
I got the inspiration for this story while at the cinema watching The Matchstick Men - dont ask me how, I was bored so it just floated into my head. The story is fragmented and I'm going to hopefully re-write it sometime soon.
A loud crash rent the sleepy silence of the docile town of Port Raven asunder. The Silver Toyota Yaris hit head long into the lamp-post, almost cutting the car in two. The driver, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, flew forward and hit his head off the glass, the force pushed him back into his seat, unconscious.
“Wake up.” said a voice, female, soft, soothing.
“Wake up” it repeated. The driver’s eyes flickered open, to see standing above him a woman, with long golden hair and hazel eyes, her features where finely defined. Everything about her screamed “beauty” The driver sat blot upright, the woman put her had on his chest and pushed him back down.
“W-Where am I?” he asked, fear made it almost impossible to speak.
“You are… here.” the woman replied
“And where would ‘here’ be then?” the driver asked.
“Call it what you may but I call it The White Room, simply because, as you can see it is pure white.” the driver sat up slowly this time, the woman didn’t stop him, and looked around. The room was indeed pure white with no windows nor doors nor lights and yet it was so bright it was blinding.
“Why am I here?” the driver asked, turning to look at the woman, only to find she had disappeared. “What the? Where did she go?” he stood up, but a searing pain in his forehead caused him to scream and fall down, grabbing his head. “What’s happening to me!?” he screamed and the pain subsided. Again he tried to stand and this time there was no pain. “How am I going to get out of this mess?” he asked himself and started to wonder around the seemingly endless White Room…
Searing pain, unlike any pain he had ever felt before in his life shot through him again, he fell, blinded by the pain. Slowly it subsided and he regained his eyesight, he looked up, to see the most horrifying sight anyone could have imagined. Three babies, hanging from the ceiling, nooses around their necks and dripping from the many cuts and bruises on their tiny bodies was blood, the blood gathered in large puddles below the babies. The Driver screamed as the babies suddenly came to life, their heads straightened and spoke; all three voices came as one and sounded like little girls:
“You have entered The White Room, the place of dreams, of nightmares, of hopes and of fears. You are not the first. For before you have came others. We search for the best, and have not found. Let us hope you are the one, the one…”
All at once the babies faded away, leaving the driver in shock and fear. He stood, not sure what to do, and decided to continue…
For days the driver walked around The White Room, it seemed to never end. Again, another shock of pain shot through the Driver’s body, he fell to the ground and again he was blind. When his vision cleared he saw a woman and a man, both naked and both hold each other’s hands. Along their bodies where large gashes, as if a beast had clawed through them, the spoke in alternating words, first the woman then the man:
“We are the guardians of the White Room… we where the first to be judged, we never found our way out… our loved ones did this to us…”
“What do I have to do to get out of here!” the driver asked urgently.
“Nothing… you are here forever…” they faded away.
The Driver swore, how would he ever get out of this place? Again, another shock of pain hit the Driver and he fell, this time the pain did not subside, he screamed and his body started convulsing. The pain was unbelievable, his life flashed in front of his eyes. His first birthday, his first step, his first word, his first Girlfriend, his wife, his car, his house 25 years of his life flashed in front of him in 25 seconds.
“I…Want…Out…Let…Me…Get…Back!” the Driver shouted through screams of pain. The pain stopped as suddenly has it had started. Standing in front of him was the woman he had met at the start, hanging above her were the babies and to the left and right of her were the man and woman. “What the hell is going on! Let me out of here! I want to get back! Please, I have a wife, a job, and 3 children!”
“WE ARE THE WHAT IS LEFT OF THE CHILDREN!” screamed the children, their voices where full of hate and rage.
”I AM YOUR WIFE!” screamed the woman, in a blinding flash the woman changed, in front of the driver stood his wife. The Driver couldn’t believe it, he fell down. How could this be?
“How? Why? Tell me please!”
It was the children who spoke: “You killed us that is why you are here! We want justice!”
“No I didn’t! I would remember I never!” then suddenly, he felt another stab of pain. Memories flooded back.
The children wouldn’t stop screaming, it was driving him insane! He had to stop it, now, he screamed. He picked up the nearest child and kicked it hard, it flew across the room and hit the wall, it stopped, he picked up the other two and banged their heads together, both of them fell silent. The driver ran outside into the shed outside and picked up 3 pieces of rope and ran back to the room where the children where. He tied each rope around the children’s neck and tied the other end to the ceiling light, they all choked to death.
“Honey what’s going on?” the driver turned around to find his wife, she looked at the children and screamed.
“NO!” yelled the driver, he ran to her and grabbed her around the neck, she was dead in a few minutes. The driver ran, out the door, down the stairs, he jumped into his Silver Toyota Yaris, he turned it on and drove as fast as he could. The lamppost came out of nowhere, the car went straight into it, almost cutting it in half, the driver, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, flew head first into the window, he fell back, unconscious.
He was back in the White Room again,
“NO!” He screamed at the children “This cant be! I would never hurt them!”
“It is true! You killed me, every night you dreamt of it!”
“I’m sorry, so, so sorry.” Wept the driver
“It is too late, you took away life from us, we cannot grow old, we cannot live our lives all because of you!” the three babies, the wife and the man and woman glided toward the driver, he screamed as they descended upon him…
***
Beep… beep… beep…
The heart monitor continued its steady beat, the driver’s eyes opened suddenly, he was still screaming.
“Doctor!” cried a nearby nurse “He’s awake!”
“Let me see him!” came the reply
“What happened?” asked the driver as he looked around, he was in a private hospital room connected to many bleeping machines.
“You, my friend, are very lucky to be alive. You took a nasty bump to the head, you have been in a coma for a very long time.” Replied the doctor
“How long?” asked the driver
“This will be hard for you to believe, but you have been here for five years.” The driver sunk back into his bed, disbelief washing over him. Everything in the room seemed to blur and fade into the distance; he turned to look out the window, to see a beautiful face with long golden hair and hazel eyes smiling back at him…
