What do you hate most in games? If you see something in a game, you'll say 'God I hate it when they do this...' (or something like it) and maybe stop playing. The things that I absolutely despise in games are:
1)Uneccesary use of the undead. The only time I find undead appropriate is in horror games, such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill. Why do so many games use zombies when they don't need to? What the hell is the point? Take Thief for example. The first level is incredible, the atmosphere is great, it uses use of sound and light/dark (imagine a fantasy style Splinter Cell). When I first got it, a few years ago, I loved the first level - you have to break into a mansion and steal a septre (sp?), that's something a thief would do. Level two, you have to break into a jail, and guess who gaurds it? The hammers, a religious group. And everyone knows what comes with religious groups in games? Yup. The undead. So you're fighting zombies, which sucks so much. Once you actually get into the prison, the game gets good again. Level three, you break into a tomb, and what with it being a tomb, there's nothing but undead. WHAT'S THE POINT?! They ruined a perfectly good game with crappy undead.
2)Alien levels. I like space levels, they're fun. Hell, I even like levels on alien planets. If there was a Starship Troopers game, I'd probably enjoy the section on Pluto. But I can't stand stererotypical, green, moving walls, strangely shaped, filled with mucus and tenticles style of alien level. Take Half Life. That game brought back my love for shooters, but I couldn't even be bothered completing the game by the time I got to Xen (the alien level, pretty much the same as what I just described). They're so boring, and almost always very difficult. I loved fighting aliens on earth, because the surroundings are slightly reasurring and more friendly, because it's a man made, familiar looking complex. In short - most alien levels suck.
So what about you? Whaddaya hate?
