I like the Resident Evil series best. My favourite used to be Resi 1 on the PS1. Recently, though, I played the Gamecube remake and I have to say it amazed me. Silent Hill is good, too. I haven't played the sequel yet, but I liked the original game's creepiness. Resident Evil focuses more on blood and guts, but Silent Hill is actually scary. Well, I was scared of the knife-wielding demon babies anyway. ;D EDIT: Huh? Weird. It won't let me say the name of the next-gen Nintendo console.

I own RE1 for the GCN. Your right though, it doesn't focus on the being scary. But it's still my fav until they make RE2 for GCN. 240 FLAME GERNADES!!! YEAH!!!

I voted for Silent Hill 2...let's just say I played the both of the Silent Hill games in the dark (it was around 11 PM CT too). You start hearing strange noises...like in the first game you hear little kids laughing and it just gets creepy after a little while.

Silent Hill 2 would be by favorite followed by SH1 then Devil May Cry.
Silent Hill will scare you, I was playing Silent Hill on saturday night, I was home alone with a friend of mine when the power cut! I havent touched SH I since!

It's the sound effects in SH that scare me the most. The footsteps of demons walking towards you, the flapping of unseen demon wings, the electrical interference on the pocket radio that lets you know when something's near, the squeaking of the wheelchair's wheel spinning by itself in the alley, the sound of the siren when the screen goes dark, the ghostly children's laughter inside the school....oh, and did I mention that you can't actually see the things making these noises? Darn fog....I'm scaring myself already. But none of those noises are scarier than Smurfs.

I rather enjoyed RE3 myself. RE1 was great too, RE2 was good, RECVX sucked and I haven't played the GC remake.

I enjoyed RE3 as well but in my opinion it was far too short. I liked RE2 but I thought that there was too much time spent in the police station. Kamau: The GC remake is MUCH scarier than the original. The improved graphics really emphasise the creepiness of the mansion. *hides under the bed*

Um, I can't believe no one has mentioned Eternal Darkness. By far the best.
