Anyone else play this game? I've tried to play this several times...I just couldn't get into it. Does it get any better than that? The character classes kinda' suck too. I can barely tell the difference between the classes I pick...even when I make my own.

I played it for a little while after having picked it up cheap somewhere, and thought that it was really good. The problem was that it was too[i/] good for me: there's so much to do that I was completely overwhelmed by everything. There was also no real sense of progression, I thought: you could have spent an hour undertaking a quest and be really proud of yourself, but you'd also know that there's about another 90 hours of these quests to go. Whereas with the PSX Final Fantasies and other similiar games, the 'Please insert Disc 2' screen shows the player that he has got to a significant point in the game, Morrowind has no way of showing this, just coming across as an overly large, cold gaming atmosphere. So I didn't really shine to it =/.

I've heard about this game here from my friend. Supposedly, it's real good. Haven't played it myself, but I hear its a very "different" RPG.

My friend and me love killing the NPCs... until we killed an important one... But the game is great.

I adore Morrowind! It is one of my favourite games of all time. I love the non-linearity of the game. The main quest is not particularly time consuming, but to fully explore the world takes so many hours. The side quests are so rich and diverse and completely dwarf the main quest in play time. To give you some idea, the recommended level your character should be for the final boss is 19. My character is 38, has finished both the original and the first expansion pack, but I just cannot seem to play Bloodmoon. I think I must have finally exhausted the game. Morrowind class system is a bit rubbish, I will admit. Never choose a preset class, they're terrible, they stick a theme rather than what are good skills. You will essentially become a jack of all trades, except when magic is concerned. Magic casters are only viable if you're playing as either a Breton or a High Elf AND choose the sign of the Apprentice or Mage (something like that - gives bonuses to magicka). Without these you won't ever have enough maximum magicka to cast good spells. I love that it is possible to create custom spells, magic items and all the other nic-nacs. Another great thing about the game is modding. It's straight forward to add a new mod to the game and it can be added at any point without causing problems to save files. Other than all the great features, the story is solid and well told. It isn't the best thing since FF7, but sometimes the simple story will suffice. Essentially, an evil Dark Elf/Dunmer has been resurrected and wants revenge on Morrowind. Only the saviour, the Neverarine, can defeat him. Sounds terrible, I know, but it does work extraordinarily well. It's so open! Kill anyone you want! Join numerous guilds and houses. You can contract vampirism. You can become a werewolf. Power level your acrobatics skill and you can jump up onto rooves, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon style. Confront the villain at any time in the game. And when you finally do get bored of it, do what everyone does - hunt down every last NPC in the game In conclusion, I love this game.

Morrowind!
Me and my freinds like to aim at something in the game, for example, one of my freinds aim is to become an arch mage and be the most powerfull person in Morrowind, and mine is to become the highest jumper and fastest runner of all.
I agree that the classes arent too good. Theyre kind of shabby and usually end up with you wanting to start again. Not good.
Heres a tip for begginners playing it.
Head to Balmora, then into the mages guild. Go upstairs and look on the table and you will see an orange gem, worth about 80k. Take it. You will be seen, so run out of the door asap, and throw the gem onto the balcony. Find a gaurd and pay the fees, then collect the gem again. Next, goto Caldera (you can warp to it from the mages guild) and go into Gorak Manor. Go upstairs and sell the gem to creeper.
Now, ive got a problem myself. Where is the leader of the assisains guild in Vivec? I want to join...

He's in the basement of the Arena canton, behind some locked doors in the storeroom if I recall correctly. A nice open spell will solve that problem.
Your tip is handy, but you won't have to be caught. I was head of the mages guild despite being inept at magic - do what you've suggested and you'll be out of luck with them. One of the mage guild quests in balmora requires you to fetch the elf on the top floor - she'll go down into the basement. That's the perfect time to swipe the soul stone.
Unfortunately I don't believe there are any traders with 80k and they will never offer the full amount for any item - with the exception of Creeper the Imp, in Caldera. This is another good reason not to piss off the mages' guild, since the only way to fast travel to Caldera is via the mage guild. Creeper only has 5000 gold, so this will not cover the soul stone, but there is a technique to get him to pay for it. You need to sell an item to him worth 5000, then wait 24 hours. His gold will have replenished. You now have 5000 gold, he has an item of yours worth 5000. Buy it back. Creeper will now have 10,000 gold. Sell him items worth up to 10,000, wait 24 hours and trade with him again. Repeat the process over and over until he's got a pool of 80,000, then can sell the soul trap for its full worth. It's time consuming and requires items of the appropriate values, but it is the best way to earn money in the game. The only drawback to Creeper is he won't buy alchemy reagents, gems or books, but who cares, right?

Morrowind is a really awesome RPG. Best RPG in my opinion, actually. There are a lot of bad things about it, though.
First off, no online play. I imagine it would be extremely demanding on the person's computer and connection to play it online, but still. It would be awesome. Second, it's EXTREMELY easy once you get going. If you know what you're doing, you can get to the point of godlyness in less than 2 days without cheating once.
Like you said Bloodrose, there isn't much difference in the classes. The magic is rather useless and never really seemed powerful. Also, there's no real sense of character as you play. You have no alignment or a good/evil sense of it, just a bounty that gets higher if you kill people in public.
Lastly, AI isn't too great. A lot of the time, your enemy will have trouble getting around a 4 inch high rock to fight you.
