Hey, I know my student loan isn't strictly for FFXI, but now they've given me the money, what can they do?
Square are cheapy little buggers, charging for additional characters and to play the card mini game, but I will forgive them if they can make a MMORPG work. Nothing I've played to date has worked as a MM, except Planetside, and even that got repetitive. I've heard promises that Square are keeping a strong story element to the game - if anyone has any clue how that'll work, let me know. If I need to play for days before getting a new piece of dialogue, it won't keep me interested. I do hope this doesn't soil the good name of Final Fantasy.

The quests in beta are pretty basic but there is somewhat of a story... not anything concrete but when talking to people for quests you will be taken to a realtime cutscene (although any other player controlled players won't show on the screen).
It still is long winded, that is the way most MMORPGs are. You aren't going to be able to just dominate in a matter of a couple hours. It takes time and a commitment.
If you say nothing that you have played to date has worked (so to speak) then you aren't giving them a chance. MMORPGs take time. It takes hours upon hours to get stuff done. That is the way it is. FFXI is no different and the lack of variety of armor/weapons in beta sucks.
Oh and Nivoraw, to answer your question, I play the PS2 version and use a 56k and it works fine with little to no lag. I haven't played the PC beta since I didn't get that one so I'm not sure. If you have a good enough machine it should be fine with that connection.

I'm not going to get it.(I don't want to see Final Fantasy end up like Phantasy Star) It makes me sad to see excellent sagas decay into story-barren, quest-driven shells of themselves. As for me, I'm just going to sit around and wait for 12.

In theory, by the time you get to a high level where you can actually enjoy it, aren't you absolutely bored to death and totally sick of the game? (Any MMORPG)

Inq, if you don't enjoy leveling and just spending time in guilds, with friends, hunting and etc then I guess it isn't for you. I enjoy building up my characters. It is part of the fun and you feel satisfaction when you actually get somewhere.

..Even if that's when it'll come around, it'll still take a little while before it comes to stores; it all depends on where it arrives; and since it's never Texas; or so it seems, I'll be waiting for awhile..doesn't really matter since I don't have the money to pay that monthly fee or whatever for MMORPG's..*sigh*

Jacket, I think the PC version does come out before the PS2 version which the PC version is supposed to be scheduled for the end of the month.
