I hate it wehen people say "omeg, ff7 is the best thing ever... its so kewl!" or something to that effect. It makes me hate the game even more, and I wasnt impressed with it to begin with. Sometimes I wish FF7 was whiped off the face of the planet.
Psygon, you may have to be hung from a jungle gym with dental floss. :-P FFX is one of my favorite RPGs. It's simply captivating. What exactly is so bad about it? Not that you're not entitled to your opinion, I'm just curious.

there is no best game, because its all based on your own opinion and we each have our own opinions. Whatever else you all say, is your own opinion. Just like this topic, its based on the opinion of the person who made this thread--Zeephos.
So, for me, like i said earlier, i don't think FFIX is the best game ever. For me, the best game ever is FFVI. =P

FF7 was a truly amazing game, maybe you didn't understand the story, read the "Greatest FF7 theory ever" topic, you will see how people are left breathless after reading that. What really makes me less impressed by it is all these noobish sequels people try to make, and now Square are thinking of...
FF9 was a good game, I enjoyed it, it would be put pretty high in my ratings...
FF10 was a bit of a flop, soooooo linear. Boring characters.
FF6 I enjoyed. Good game, another with a high rating.
Shenmue N/A
Zelda N/A
Out of those my fav is FF7 by miles. Simply genious.

Note: If you want my reply WITH cursing, then email me. Otherwise, read the following:
It wasn't the best game ever, even in my opinion. It ranks at about 2 or 3.
Duck Hunt kicks it's Final Fantasy ass.
True, FFIX was beyond revolutionary for its time, and if it it was realeased on the PS2, then the graphics would have been a VERY small step down from FFX's. (I've said it before, I'll say it again; The graphics are great, and this is with the rendering technique used. The graphics were made out of horizontal lines, and every 2 or 3 lines, one of the lines was removed to accelerate the graphics rendering speed. If the extra lines were there, then everything would have been smoother - A LOT smoother.)
But think about it. Yes, it's a great game. Yea, it's my favorite game. (which means that all of you should like it. NOW LIKE IT OR ELSE! ;D) But there are better ones. FFVII, for example. I didn't like it very much . . . But the amount of effort put in to the depth of the storyline and characters is unbelievable. Or Duck Hunt; Nothing really even has to be said about the greatest game of all time, so . . . I'll continue.
FFIX's storyline was its strong point, and I'd like to have someone argue with me at that . . . Although it IS purely opinion, as said before. As put before, the graphics of FFIX were brought down by the hardware platform that it was played on, originally. Which makes me hate the people who criticize FFIX for its graphics. (oddly enough, these people glorify FFVII, and its graphics suck, frankly. Even for FFVII's time.)
AND as put before . . . . There is no "best game ever". It's purely a matter of opinion.
Gimdin: What's so bad about FFX, you ask? I'll list a few things . . .
1) How many times it knocks off of previous FFs. 2) Similar to example one, almost all of the characters were knock offs from previous FFs. 3) The game was WAY too linear. It was like watching a movie. At least in FFIX you had the ability to roam around doing sidequests. 4) The game concentrated on, and I believe was pretty much entirely dependant upon aside from the series name, its graphics. 5) Whenever Seymour gave a speech later on in the game, it felt like I was listening to some madman who watched The Lion King too many times. 6) The basic plot didn't even make sense. Matter cannot be created, nor destroyed, under any circumstances. And how could entities of one's dreams think on their own? It would mean that the entire story takes place inside a dream . . . Which makes for the bad sitcom effect when something unexplainable happens; A dream inside a dream. Even in video games, there HAS TO BE an explanation for everything, or it just degrades the game THAT MUCH more.
Anything after that involves A LOT of cursing.

I have read the FF7 theory, and it was just not all that eye opening. The story was okay, and I understood it perfectly. I just think the game gets way too much hype than it deserves. Everyone likes that game, and it isnt that good. People just wet their pants because it was something new.
Rolin- its hard to have that many characters over time and not have one to be similar to the other. The fact is I could arbitrarily pull an ff7 character and say he or she was similar to a previous ff character, so I really don't think that argument is fair, or based on anything solid.
As for the linearness of it- I have to agree, but it wasn't all that bad. It kept the story focused-- Rolin, don't be silly. FFX's basis is on a Metaphysical level. If we were to go by science, then all of the FF's storys would be lame, because there is no much thing as magic. The point is, you're supposed to suspend your disbelief. If there is a part of the story that wasn't clear (which is possible, since its very deep) I think I should explain it. Tidus was a dream of the fayth, that was turned into quasi-reality when he came in contact by Sin, who is the fayths reason for dreaming. The whole story was compelling. The cycle of life and death, something that never ends, is so much more real than oh say, a lifestream. The whole story is very dark, yet it takes place in a tropical world. Everything is balanced, everything just is, and theres no way to stop it. The defeating of Sin says to us that there is something more though, but not without sacrifices (Tidus dissapearing). There is always hope in the monotony of life and death. I hope that made sense, because I just started typing. Anyway, for my money Seymour is one of the coolest villans. His evilness is a thousand times more frightening because its so human. Hes on the literal edge of insanity, unlike Kuja who was just mainly being bratty.

I agree with Rolin FF9 sucks, though. Who cares if the graphics were good? The game itself was incredibly boring.
