There are pros and cons to RPG Maker XP, it depends who you are - if you consider yourself an RPG Maker guru then XP is the way to go - some of the features iishenron mentioned are simply mouth watering - you wouldn't believe how much additional 'coding' I've had to add just to do something that could be done in 1 command if I could refer to pictures by variables. The cons are, of course, the regression to RM2k/RM95 style battle system, which for me is just plain rubbish. Fortunately it seems we can override it, but I suspect scripting will be no mean feat, limiting those who can make something fun and unique to a handful of the talented; although there is an argument that it is already like that now.
I won't be restarting my project, I've done far too much to abandon it now to move to XP, but I will attempt to make a vast array of sprites for budding XP game makers, maybe I can be the next Mack&Blue.
But as for the trial, don't waste your time. If you want to play with the demo, wait for a translation.

I tried it; I personally was interested despite everyone saying how bad it was. But in the end it wasn't all that good as was said. The battle system was okay personally, not as good as Rm2k/3 I admit but I wouldn't cry at the sight of it like people are making out.
The only things I found rather decent was the graphical capabilities the ability to script, there will need to be a fair few guides about scripting because I doubt a lot of people are going to grasp it quickly unless it turns out to be quite simple. But on the whole it isn't great, nor is it terrible but kind of mediocre in all aspects. I suspect I'll try the translated version because a load of question marks doesn't help you find something new on the event menu.

Apparently, there's already someone translating it at nsoft-rpg... And Advo said he would translate it too I think.

Advo said he's going to translate? What a contradicting not a very nice person. I thought he was all against the illegal translations now.
As nice as RMXP is, and the wonderful Ruby script implement, I'm sticking with Game Maker as it's free, powerful, and easy to use GML.
I might download RMXP just to take a look at it, anyhow.

Uhm...the words don't show up... EDIT: Also, in the database...if you put RMXP maximized, pressing F9 will open the database with all the tabs at top, except you can't save. If you restore it and go to the database, you can save stuff but not go to different tabs. But i just figured it out I think...to help anyone else, max it, open database, go to the edit you wanna be in, close, restore, open database, and it should be in that same thing and you can edit and save. I'm a genious. *glances at first statement* Still that, though... EDIT II: Also, anyone find out how to save your game?

It's a shame neonsoft is down until the 1st... I'm a staff member there (that's where I've been.)
The verdict's still out on XP for me. 2K has been fine.

No, I'm not talking about neonsoft, I'm talking about nsoft-rpg, something else, and the suppose-to-be translation as well as the full version download there is a scam.
