I couldn't resist. I've been showing off my new battle character set to everyone I could find all day. I've got two characters now. I haven't got around to doing all their actions, or any in fact, just their idle pose and tinkered with a few more. They're based on these two character sets, also by me, totally original etc.: Both are 100% original, no template or anything. You will all no double recall that I'm in the process of creating armies of various (human) races. Those two are heroes for the Japanese army which I am currently working on. They're public graphics, but aren't finished yet. I plan to include numerous heroes, all with battle character sets in the same style (the RTP ones suck). Oh, and I'm going to add some material texture to "Heihachi's" white belt and give him his sword.

Heihachi doesn't use any weapons, though! ^_-
They're really awesome, dude. Do you know when they'll be completely done?

The Jinalike took numerous hours, Heihachi took 30 mins. Once I got the hang of the style it was really easy. Having said that, these are the heroes - more attention will go into these than my other charasets. I will probably make around 4 heroes per race. First of all I'll have to make the character sets before I turn them big. Anyway, I won't be releasing these until the entire Japanese army is complete. I've finished one unit, with several variations (I'm rather fond of it, it's some good work if I do say so myself), I've got a few facing down units (without the walk animation) that will need 4 directioning, which doesn't take long really. Unfortunately I don't have enough ideas at present to really be able to get them done in the next few days, and I suspect that animating the battle character sets will be a grueling exercise. Soon, I hope, anyway.

Maxy this game is looking better still! Will it be totally strategy, or will it other apects o an RPG? I would like to see a purely strategic game released for RPG Maker.

It's not a game I'm making. These are merely graphics I am making for the RM2k3 community. I really hate the default RTP battle character sets, they are truly awful. There isn't a lot on offer in the way of battle sets and the ones that are out there are often in the RTP style. I did have an RPG strategy game in mind when I was creating the first set, but did not intend to make one. The real inspiration for this soon-to-be collection is that in almost every RPG in the community there is only ever one race of humans and creators always add in elves or dwarves or something instead, a mere mockery of diversity. Almost all fantasy RPGs are set in the middle ages, circa 10th century in weaponry, architecture and customs (whilst mixing in renaissance technology). Unlike today, races were segregated in the real world in this era. The far east was barely known, America undiscovered. Europeans were busy slaying Persians and Turks in the crusades - they would never dream of interbreeding with them. Scandinavians were blonde haired, blue eyed, Italians dark hair and eyes with olive skin. We never see this in RPGs - hair, eye and sometimes even skin colour are varied. In the graphics collection I am in the process of making a strict theme is employed throughout. These armies will all have common physics traits and carry distinct weapons and armour that are only applicable to their origins. Storyline and dialogue are often highlighted as key points in our RPG creations, but there is more to it that just that. Creating a rich and developed background is important. That's what I've tried to do with the material I have released so far. Here's the URL of what I have released so far: www.stupid-boy.com/chris/MaxysArmy1.zipThese are for public use. No permission is required to use them, nor do I need credit for their use, although anyone trying to pass them off as their own will be scorned.

I am amazed; your graphics are bloody fantastic. I almost orgasmed at the sight of those battle character sets. Honestly, they're THAT good!
But alas... this makes me want Terrformer (that's what it's called, right?) more than ever. Why do people have to have talent? It makes me jealous because I lack all skills at spriting or any form of pixel art.

It's all very good indeed. You never see original battle charactersets these days. They're all edits or basic charsets worked into poses. A very good job indeed! I stand with what I said before though; I can tell that the poses with the Katana's were definitely inspired by Kill Bill .

I'm sorry to drift off topic but is that a sprite from The Queen's Court in your signature, IIshenron? I decided to give Three the Hard Way a second chance and actually found myself enjoying it as I'm yet to get stuck, and there's nothing worse than playing for 15 hours then getting stuck. The graphics are medicore, but the story's blinding. I'm now in the Zebulon temple in Burlington trying to do that tile puzzle and I have no idea what to do, besides knowing that the tiles move towards any door you walk through, and the cultists are quite difficult too. I am powerful enough to beat them but it means using lots of well-needed items. I'm looking forward to The Queen's Court!

Thanks! Iishenron, steal away! Another little thing I've been tinkering with, I'm not going to keep this hosted for long (don't want too many people stealing my idea!). Remember, you saw it here first. Oh, and I think I once heard of an 2k3 version which allowed animated monsters? If that's true, this is redundant. Anyway: *Removed: It was up long enough.*There's not much to tell - it's just a battle, but with a twist. You're looking for: - Blinking
- Shaking (silly little unanimated kerjigger, just showing there aren't any limits to the movement)
- "Come on!"
- Levitation - only happens when he's at 50% health. He will ALWAYS do this when he's below 50%. It only takes one hit to get him to 50, so only hit him once!
So it doesn't do anything, really, it's just more showing off. That is the point to this thread, right? Anyway, I'm keeping the rest of the sprites I've done to myself, I plan to release them all at the same time (although I do seem to show them off over MSN).

Yeh Maxy, you hsould write a bit about how to make this nuts. *SOME* of us would appreciate it. EDIT: Quick Idea, maybe you should team up with a few of the best programmers here to make a sort of community war game, You could have all of the main people at the town running there own armie as different aliases in the game. It would be secretly funny.

Yeh Maxy, you hsould write a bit about how to make this nuts. *SOME* of us would appreciate it. It really isn't that hard to make at all. What Maxy has that many others don't is the skill. I consider myself to be a small-time amateur spriter, and it's really not too hard at all. The harder things for me right now are 3/4 view and shading, etc...
